Not all the trains have the same size rack. but a "standard" small suitcase will fit on any of them. And a "standard" largre suitcase won't fit at all.

How big is your "standard" suitcase - 22"? 30"?

Many passengers carry large suitcases and on the ES trains there is a large bin for suitcases at the entrance to the train where suitcases are placed instead of in overhead racks.

A 26" will also fit between the seats on a Eurostar.

It depends on the Eurostar. My 22" just barely fit between the seats, and that was in first class.

Advice: after you decide if the baggage is to go into the overhead or the racks at the front of the train you may want to take a steel cord lock to secure the handles to the racks. We did this and never worried our luggage was out of sight. I read stories about stolen luggage enough to worry.

Hi Auss,

If you are traveling mainly by train, don't take anything larger than a 22". If you do, you will be sorry after the first day!

Remember, you have to lift it up into the train, roll it down the asiles, get it up into the rack, lug it up and down all the station stairs......
