AVE Madrid to Seville and Cordoba to Madrid
I'm going to Spain in October and I'm trying to determine what I need to do regarding train tickets. My plan is to take the AVE from Madrid to Seville, rent a car and then several days later take the train from Cordoba to Madrid. Should I buy the tickets ahead of time on the web or would it be OK to just wait until the day I am ready to travel. My itinerary is pretty much set with hotel reservations and such. Thanks!

You will pay more if you buy them on the web; it's much better to buy them in Spain a day or two ahead of time. But if you don't have a couple of days in Madrid before going to Sevilla (too bad if not), then do what you have to - I think someone has mentioned an agency in NYC that will provide the tix, which may be surer than on-line charging and hoping they arrive in time.

I made reservations from the states for the Cordoba to Madrid Ave, FORGOT THEM, and made them again in Spain during the very crowded Easter week for the 7 of us, 2nd class, of course and had no problem! (Got my money back except for the reservation price)

It would be useful to buy the tickets in Spain a couple of days ahead. Sometimes congresses or fairs in Madrid and Sevilla at that time are quite frequent and it become crowded, but in general I would not worry about it, especially if your plans are a bit flexible, I mean, it might be the same for you to take the following AVE train instead of which you were thinking before.
