Apt Rental in St Germian Any Suggestions Please I need Help

Well I have a question now, it has been suggested that instead of fighting HOtel Boulevard for the rate they promised me . I shoudl rent an apartment . Which sounds great but It is something I have never done before.
Because I am travleing with my mother who has some mobiity problems It must be central and must have an elevator. I would actually like to be on the Blvd St Germain, or on Rue Buci, so we can just walk out and poof she is right there in the middle of the hub hub.
How do you find these apartment ? I would appreciate all help. thanks

One thing to remember: first floor is actually the second floor. The ground floor (rez-de-chaussee) rarely houses an apartment, and many buildings have no elevator.

try chezvous.com Citidines is a chain of apartment-hotels. do a search on this forum for Paris apartments; there have been many threads.

Sandra, A good place to start is www.france-apartment.com. This site lists lots of agencies and individuals for apartment rentals in Paris. If you see something that you are interested in, come back to the forum and see if others have used their services for references. When inquiring about the rentals, be sure to be specific of your needs.

Try www.apartmenthotels.com and cheznous.com. "Cheznous" has some privately-owned Parisian apartments for rent on the Left Bank. I just rented a house through vrbo.com (in another part of the world) and I am quite pleased with the results.

Hi,

I'm most likely going to rent a first floor apartment (twith elevator) on the rue Visconti, very near the rue Buci. The rental company is PSRyourhomeinparis.com. and it has an excellent web site.
If anyone has actually rented this or any other from PSR, I'd really appreciate your opinion. Please contact me directly.

Thanks.

Isobel, maybe I'm confused. I looked at that PSR website and the only apartment I found on Rue Visconti is a second floor (meaning third floor to us Americans) with no elevator. Also I didn't see how to price them ,except to find that there is an extra fee of about $120 that includes among other things just one towel per person. Am I reading this right? How much is the apartment you are looking at if I may ask?

Love our stay at Citadines apt-hotel, on Quai St. Augustimes. It's at citadines.com. There are about 20 buildings in Paris; this one is the St. Germain one.

Isobel, I hope you post here as well so that all may benefit from what you have learned. Meanwhile let me summarize to say that Isobel found a whole list of "extra" charges for this apartment and has since changed her mind about renting it.

I can highly recommend the accommodations and services at www.aparisianhome.com. I am renting from them again in December and have found their prices quite reasonable. There is no "one time" set up fee or a charge for a basket of salt, pepper and sugar,or any charges for linens, etc. They are great to work with, answer e-mails promptly and deliver what they have promised.

We stayed at the Citadines in St. Germain last week and were quite pleased. It is modern, about a five minute walk to Rue de buci and has an elevator, washing machine/dryer in building and a small kithen and is close to almost everything. It is a bit expensive but a nice place if you are going to spend a week to a month in Paris.

Sandra - I highly recommend staying in a hotel. Many offer rooms for three people. IF you're like me, you spend very little time in the room anyway. The hotels are very centrally located. Just get one with a refridgerator.

I think you would like the rooms at Millesime. The Danube looks very close in as is the hotel Bonaparte. The danube is close to Brasserie lipp and Cafe Flore. IT is easy to catch a cab at the station there because of the contant turnover at the cafes. The hotels all have elevators. If you're staying close in, you can always have her stay in the room while you dash out to the market to pick up something for dinner. Being close to the Rue de buci or another market is a nice idea.

This time I looked at many of the hotels recommend here on the Ile de la Cite as well as many near St. Germaine. I still think that Millesime is best if you need a big room and can spend more like 150.
I have found that I don't mind the size of the room so much as long as the ceilings are high and I have a big window to open.

HAving someone come in and clean the room each day, and having the security of a reception desk and fulltime staff is worth it's weight in gold in my humble opinion. Besides, if you are staying in an apartment you will have to call a cab for yourself- and beleive me, it's complicated. I don't know what we would have done without the staff to help us.

I have rented from PSR satisfactorily and feel the above veiled comment could be unfair, especially given its mystery and implied threat of how bad things are at PSR they you won't say on here. There are extra charges beyond the rental rate (I don't think the web site specifies exact rates, only price ranges, that is one disadvantage of their website--you have to get a quote from the office) but they are not that excessive IMO, and are fairly normal for these type of rental situations. I've seen them on many rental companies web sites. I don't remember the PSR one's amount I paid, but it wasn't that much as it varies by size of apt and number of people because of what it covers (such things as liability insurance, electricity, phone, cleaning, and linens). I got much more than one towel per person, although I know they say something like that on their web site which sounds chintzy, but in practice, you get more (I did anyway). I don't understand why, but a lot of these apt rental firms do charge extra for phone and electricity. However, obviously the bottom line is the bottom line, whether it's itemized separately or rolled into one rate doesn't really matter--nothing is free, you pay for it one way or another. Citadines, etc are more like hotels and thus I think are a good compromise for those who really just want a hotel with a kitchenette. I found PSR a good service and value. If there is no separate fee but you are charged about 50-100pct more for an equivalent apt, that is really no bargain. The fees PSR charges are one time, also, so really are a lot cheaper in terms of impact if you rent longterm, which is the point--if you want to rent an apt for a shortstay, you pay for it (I don't recommend it, myself and don't do it even when I'm there 7-10 days). Some other firms like Chez Vous don't have a separate fee anymore (I think they used to, and it was a lot higher than PSRs) but their rental fees are very high.
