I will be traveling around Poland. I am looking to buy some amber jewelry and would like input from others who have purchased. I have heard Krakow but am open to other suggetions as well. I am not interested in the cheap quality but rather more of a splurge. Thanks.

Definitly in Gdansk or Sopot. In Gdansk there are 100s of Gallery/Shops in the Old City - and that is really the place to buy (due to competition), or even just to see how beautifully some works are. Most is set in silver, but more and more is also being set in gold as well. FYI... Other cities get their amber from Baltic Cities like Gdansk/Sopot or Russian Kaliningrad.

I bought a lovely piece in Gdansk. Tour guide directed us to the shop behind the main streeet, and near the cathedral (if I remember right). Shop was expensive but everything was of the highest quality. One has to be careful not to buy plastic! Real amber will float in water, (but, of course, if it's set in gold....!)I'm certain someone can guide you to a good vendor.<BR>Fake stuff can be pretty, too. Just don't pay real prices.
