We will be staying in Furore, Amalfi in October. Our kids gifted us this trip for fun and relaxation but I can't imagine reaching Italy without visiting Rome.. I tried finding a tour that starts from amalfi to Rome but couldn't! Can any one help please?. What options do we have for a day tour or so to Rome for sightseeing ?

I suspect that there is little market, if any, for what you are trying to do. It would be totally custom, and let me add, time consuming starting from Amalfi.

From your other thread, it looks like you are flying into NAP. Where are you returning home from? If you are also returning from NAP and your accommodation is locked, you would need to do this on your own from Amalfi.

Make yourself to Salerno (about 1 hr by taxi, 1.5 hr by bus). Take a highspeed train to Rome (about 90 minutes) www.trenitalia.com.

If you had this in mind, the better option would be to fly into NAP, spend couple of nights at the end in Rome and fly home from FCO.

If you really want to do something like this, consider a car service that will also take you to a few of the sites in Rome. We used Tiber Limo from Positano to Rome..and they offered to stop in Pompeii. You might also look at Rome Cabs to see if they will do something like that. I agree flying home from Rome would be the best choice.

Trains can put you as greg says in Rome in a few hours and spend all day there - see Colosseum, Forum and walk around center of Rome - Trevi Fountain - Spanish Steps, Parthenon, etc.

Limo would be nice if you want to fork out a lot of money.

Won't the ferries still be running? If so Amalfi - Salerno to catch the train would be closer to 35-40 min.

I think I would do that and as Greg suggested catch a fast train to Rome. In fact we are doing that in a couple of weeks.

But I also like car service idea -- we used Positano Car Service so that or the one mentioned above could work -- ? Pricier, but time vs.money.

Maybe 300-400 euros...it has been 2 years. Definitely more convenience than cost effective but sometimes that's the way it is. I would rather not waste time in train stations etc on my vacationbut we did fly out of Rome so it wasn't a trip fromPositano to Rome and back.

Are you flying into Naples?
If so, are you going to Naples for the last night before flying out?
Have you already worked out logistics of getting to Furore?

If Rome is that important to you, and it certainly would be for me, consider going straight to Rome and staying there two nights on arrival or spend your last two nights in Rome.

This is a case where you waste more time driving than taking bus/train. Driving to Rome from Amalfi takes from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours, while public transportation takes less than 3 1/2 hours if you take the bus from Amalfi to Salerno and then a high-speed train to Rome. There's a bus leaving Amalfi at 6:15 that makes a good connection to the 7:37 Italo train to Rome. You'd be in Rome by 9:35.

On the way back, you could get an Italo train back to Salerno at 6:15 PM, connecting to a bus to Amalfi at 8:33 PM, getting you back to Amalfi at 9:45.

This would give you a little less than 9 hours in Rome, which would be time to see a good deal, especially if you skip some of the super-crowded sights, which eat up a lot of time and energy.

No, we stayed in Rome after the transport. We spent a day in Rome before flying out of Rome.

bvlenci....we could not easily get to Salerno reliably then as there were wild fires that had some roads closed. We chose the car service recommended by the hotel staff as they were not even running the hotel shuttle service into Amalfi. So rather than worry with the unknown road conditions the next day we chose to go by car. It did not take 4 1/2 hours to get to Rome and we did have door to door service, which we preferred with our luggage. So for us, we paid for the convenience.
