9 Days in Ireland - Need a driving Itinerary
My husband and I will arrive on Good Friday, April 10 in Shannon Airport and depart from there on Sunday April 19. Car is reserved.
I need suggestions for a 9 day driving itinerary. I understand the pubs will be closed on Good Friday but I don't know if I should expect a lot of locals travelling for the Easter weekend.
I'm not sure if we should reserve a few hotels / B&B's or just wing-it - looking for places to stay as we travel around.
We want to stay on the west coast and get as many photo opportunities as possible. We're very interested in the ruins and the scenery and mingling with the locals for this trip. Not interested in the big cities and museums.
Your suggestions are most welcome.
Linda

The request may appear similiar but it is not.
This is a new trip. In September, I went to IReland with another photographer for 1 week. We were based in three cities: LImerick, Dublin and Castlebar.
On this trip I would like a driving circuit. With all the peninsulas on the west coast I can't seem to get an idea of a driving circle that will begin and end in Shannon.
I am also concerned about arriving on Good Friday and the Easter weekend. Will there be a lot of competition for places to stay?
I wonder if I should book us somewhwere for the Easter weekend then start driving.
The suggestions I get on this forum have been invaluable in planning trips to Paris and IReland in 2008 so I welcome the help for this different 2009 trip.
THANKS!

To my mind, the best scenic photo opportunities are on the Beara Peninsula, the western end of the Dingle Peninsula, around Killarney (if you can escape the crowds), the coastline of West Cork, and Gougane Barra. Any circuit that includes most of those places will yield lots of the water-stone-vegetation (often with boats and/or buildings) mix that can make great pictures. Just about any town or village in that part of Ireland can yield good urban pictures, but the obtrusion of cars can make things difficult.

LindaBrinck - If you go to one of the most comprehensive Trip Reports on Ireland by Erin74 you will gleen wonderful tips and ideas.
Whilst studying her report I make notes in my travel guide: Insight Guides Ireland by the Discovery Channel. [email protected]
It's a wonderful book full of colourful photos and very comprehensive accounts of history, geography, tourist sights, and maps for every section of Ireland.

Hi Linda; Our last trip to Ireland we had rented a 'standard shift' car. At the counter, the person asked us if we would like an automatic? We took the automatic and it makes driving so easy, while driving on the left side of the road. Especially in heavy trafic. Iris
