Let me recommend that you spend some time becoming familiar with the website www.jasoncholt.com - - nearly a complete guidebook online - - produced as a labor of love (as far as I can tell) by a British ex-pat living there.

And for lodging, you can jump directly to the webpage http://www.jasoncholt.com/prague/prahahotel.html

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Dear Fate_golfman,

Prague is one of my favourite cities and has one of the best art/nouveau(outside of Paris)collections I've ever seen. I loved Municipal house-a must! Here are some sites: www.eurocheapo.com/prague
www.prag-unterkunft.de
www.czechbyclick.com
www.pragu e-museums.com
The concerts were wonderful(almost as good as Vienna)

We stayed at The Cloister Inn, they do have a web site. In 1999 it was about $100 a night for a double/WC/Shower including breakfast. It was centrally located, they do have a web site. I do not know if you consider that "Budget" Prague was expensive for lodging and inexpensive for great food.
We walked from there to Wensalas (sp) Square, Old Town Square, the Jewish Quarter (seeing it took 1/2 day), we walked over the bridge to Hradny Castle area. At the TI in old town found out about concerts and went to one in the Museum. It was a brief one, only about 1 1/2 hours for a trio on the steps. It was reasonable and very good then since the museum is on Wens. Square, went to a cafe for dinner. Really is a great city.

Oh there is also a hostel in the same building as the Cloister and it is in walking distance to the bus station.
Take in an opera or ballet at the Estates Theater, National Theater, or State Opera House. Magnificent guilded structures dating back to the 1700's and 1800s. The music is wonderful. I remember sitting in the National Opera House and thinking that If I had not seen this theater I could not say that I saw Prague.

If you like art nouveau check out the Alphonse Mucha Museum.

I too was satisfied by the Cloister Inn. Right in the hub of things.
