21 Day driving tour Wales & Southern England Sept 2017
Hi,
We are an active couple in our mid 60's. We would like help with an itinerary for 21 days arriving & leaving from London at the beginning of Sept 2017. We have been to Scotland on an earlier trip so would probably leave it out this time. Also have traveled quickly through the Cotswold, Lake District & Bath, but would like to see again if time permits also we are thinking 3 or 4 days in London at the end of the trip.
Our hope is to be able to see Wales, Cornwall & southern England. We would like to see Port Issac (Doc Martin)
We enjoy most historical sites in moderation also enjoy seascapes & quaint villages.
I don't mind driving but would prefer more scenic routes over busy motorways.
Our preferred accommodations would be B&B's or small hotel/pubs. We are not fancy but clean rooms with ensuite are preferred. Also within walking distance of pubs & restaurants if possible ( we do enjoy a pint or 2)
We have rented cars from Auto Europe in the past with good result,s however other suggestions for routes, sights or accommodations etc. would be appreciated.
We understand this is short notice for this trip but the opportunity came up at the last minute so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

You'll find your 21 days passes very quickly what w/ a day or two low key at the front end for jet lag/recovery and say 4 days at the end in London. You are talking a little over 2 weeks for The Lakes, Wales, the Cotswolds, and Cornwall plus any other part(s) of the south.
If it was me I'd flip and put London at the front end so you can acclimate/recover car-less. Maybe 4 nights in the city. Then take the train to Liverpool or Manchester and collect a car there. Maybe 2 days in the Lakes, 3 or 4 days in North Wales, a couple of days in the Cotswolds, then Bath for a day/night, long-ish haul down to Cornwall for maybe 5 days, then somewhere in Dorset/the south coast, then maybe Salisbury/Stonehenge/Avebury, drive up to LHR, drop the car and spend your last night in an airport hotel, fly home.

topping -- not quite sure why you started two threads but both have responses . . .>
Janis - obviously a new poster unfamiliar with how Fodor's works - your thread will sink into the Fodor's black hole if someone don't respond to it, which brings it back to the top for a while
but you can 'top' your onw thread if it does sink just by typing Topping and folks will understand you just wanted to bring it back into visibility to garner responses (once a thread sinks out of sight it often never comes back it seems IME of years of posting here)

"obviously a new poster unfamiliar with how Fodor's works"
Who? The OP has been here as long as you or I.
My point was -- you and annhig responded to the other thread at the same time I was responding to this one - with totally different ideas/suggestions. With the two threads going it will be a a bit of reinventing the wheel on both . . .

Sorry about the double posting I didn't realize that I had sent the first one. I added the " Help Please" so people wouldn't think it was a trip report. is there a way to correct this?
Thank you, Janisj & PalenQ for you comments
