The Berner Oberland---Grindelwald, Wengen, Murren etc. Train to Milan via Brig from there and on to Tuscany.

I don't think there is any one "best" place for hiking and scenery. For amazing peaks, cliffs, valleys, and waterfalls, the Berner Oberland. But there is also the Engadine, known for charming villages set in a green landscape. From some places in the Valais you can hike above Europe's largest glacier, the Aletschgletscher. Zermatt also offers views of the Matterhorn and great hiking. Or above Lac Leman, you can hike through vineyards with views of the lake.

From just about anywhere in Switzerland, you can get to Tuscany either via Brig (to Milan), or from Luzern to Locarno, thence to Milan. From Milan, take a train to your destination in Tuscany.

I should add---there are several discussions here of favorite hikes in Switzerland. You can find them using the "search" function above this area of the page.

That depends on where in Tuscany you want to go, but most trains would go to florence first. Milan to Florence is 2:45 if you take a Eurostar train, a half-hour longer on a regional train.

You can view the train schedules on-line; I like to use the Swiss rail site, even for trains in Italy: www.sbb.ch

Hi all,

Don't forget the beautiful green rolling hills around Gstaad-Chateau d'Oex-Saanen. Incredibly beautiful.

swandav2000---we'll be going to that area for the first time this summer, staying Gstaad. I'm really looking forward to it, especially after viewing all your photos of the area. Thanks for introducing me to Saananland!
