Who for Alaska?
I'm starting the planning process for a group to take an Alaskan cruise next summer (july or August, 2000). I would love to know recommendations for lines, itineraries, as well as what month is the best. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Any month is really ok to Alaska. I just went in late May and the weather is going to vary from the 40's to the 70's. Warmer inland near Fairbanks. If you are taking a group you will find the best rates in May.

Both Holland America and Princess have an excellent reputation in Alaska and you should start your quest with these two companies. They are not usually the least expensive. If you want to do a cruise and tour package, Princess and Holland America are really the two main players.

Finally, find cruise specialists that you can work with. A really good expert can help you with issues that you would not even think of and can potentially save you hunderds of dollars on your cruise.

Pat

Hi Hilary:
I just returned from a cruise to Alaska in June'99 where it was sixteen of us. We went on the Celebrity Galaxy and all of us enjoyed every minute of it. For me, it was my first cruise. Even though
I got seasick for two days, I would still cruise again. Everything about the Galaxy cruise was splendid. I used a travel agent from the interntet that can be reached at sailaway-cruises.com. She was wonderful and even a month later she still calls me to see how I am doing. I probably checked out over two dozen agencies and her price was the most competitive. I hope this has been some help to you. Good luck!

Hilary,
I went on an Alaska Cruisetour last year. I used an agent from www.cruisealaska.com they have a great web-site full of Alaska information and I got an agent that knew a lot about the area and cruises.

In early July we took a Holland America cruise/tour. We chose the number one tour which included three nights on the Veendam and eight nights inland. We started in Vancouver, cruised, with one stop at Juneau and got off the ship at Skagway. We had T-H-E most wonderful young man as a tour guide...spent two nights in the Yukon, Canada and took the train from Fairbanks to Anchorage with an overnight and wildlife tour at Denali. Each day was long, very interesting, packed with loads of things to do and see and unbelievably organized and we were glad we went inland for all those days. Holland America, and I believe, Princess, both have their own hotels along the way and the number one tour could not have been better!
