Weather on Transatlantic in Nov.

Anyone have any comments on the weather from Lisbon to Barbados? We're thinking of doing the "Windsurf" crossing. It seems like Nov. would be tough on the open seas. I hope someone can tell me I'm wrong.

It may be especially tough on a smaller ship without stabilizers. I just did a cruise in Costa Rica and Panama aboard a small Cruise West ship, and the last night was pretty rough (and this was in clear weather ... just wind). I don't think anyone will tell you that you are wrong.

We went from NY to Bermuda in June. Right through a storm. The ship was about 50,000 Tons and it was miserable. Moral: you can run into bad weather anytime and in any ship.

We did Barcelona to Miami in Nov. 2008 and had one rough day between Funcal and Bermuda, but otherwise it wasn't bad at all. Oceania, so it was a smaller ship, but with stabalizers, I'd do it again. On the other hand, friends did Miami to BCN in April of 07 and the first two days out of Miami where horrid.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not prone to seasickness and love the movement of sailing, but it would be nice to have the sun.

May I recommend ginger tablets..taken when you b oard the ship and every day at sea you have one with a meal. Works the same as flat gingerale did when you were sick as a child. For an upset or wonky stomach... bring or drink mint tea.. If your going to be stopping in B ermuda..head towards the pharmacy.. Robertsons I think.. and ask for STURGERON.. or you might be able to buy it in Europe.. it is what yachtsmen use for crossing the Atlantic..

Wind Surf is stabilized and has a computer-controlled ballast system to control lean and handles rough seas pretty well. One word of caution, though--a few years ago we sailed Wind Surf from Lisbon to Barcelona when she emerged from a scheduled drydock in Lisbon. The drydock was actually cut short because the ship was a day late arriving from her crossing due to weather. Wind Surf isn't a "fast" ship.

Hope that helps.
