Transatlantic the southern route early Nov

Husband has transatlantic crossing on his bucket list. I'm willing to go but from forums have found our inital trip choices were going north, Greenland, Iceland to NY or Boston. That is proving to be too cold and generally bad, cold weather.

So, another option is heading south, the Spain to Florida route in early November by either NCL, Carnival or Princess. Anyone have any experience with this route at this time of year? I know it's hurricane season but if that doesn't happen are the seas generally rough? Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't have any concern about the weather on that route. It is called "the milk run" by sailors who go in their own boats because generally there is a warm following wind and quite calm seas. They are way east of any storms at that time until you get right next to Fla.

We have done it now three times from Spain in November with different lines, and it has been a lovely experience each time and quite flat the whole way. Outstanding choice really, especially for the good values. (My wife does get seasick, and has medication etc, but has never taken it out of the wrapper on any of these three crossings). So go for it.

I crewed on a 3-masted Tall Ship from The Canary Islands to Barbados in October/November 1996. We sailed a westerly course in effect from the Cape Verde Islands to Barbados.

The weather was fantastic. One day of rain but mostly calm seas and shorts/t-shirts during the day. Had a light jacket for the evening.

While not a perfect guide I would suggest you look at weather conditions that time of year in the Azores. Far enough west and south to be a decent gauge of what to expect.

By chance he's looking for something implying more adventure you might want to look into the segments for the Picton-Castle in 2012.

I'm at a different stage in my life but I'd do another transatlantic sail in a heartbeat.

My husband and I have done 2 transatlantic cruises this time of year. Weather was great warm by day alittle cool at night and the seas were calm. maybe a few rocky nights but perfect for rocking you to sleep. We sailed from Rome to Miami. Great choice for a bucket list. I'd do it again!!

We sailed Nov./Dec. '07 from Barcelona to Rio. The weather became warmer the more southerly we were. I can't remember rough seas. We're leaving on Oct. 28-Nov.13 for Barcelona to Galveston cruise. This is our favorite time of year to travel. Most kids are in school, not a lot of concern about ice or snow keeping you from getting to the airport, don't have to get someone to mow or water outside plants. A nice relaxing time before the Thanksgiving/Christmas bustle begins. Qwovadis mentioned repositioning cruises. Ours coming up is one for the Carnival Magic. Got a great deal. Lots of cruiselines, lots of options. You gotta do it!!
