I am a first time cruiser attempting to pick my balcony cabin on the Dawn Princess (Southern Caribbean route) and would appreciate any thoughts anyone has? I'm not looking at the suites or the mini-suites but all else is a possibility. I would like to get some private sun on the balcony -- is that a possibility in a non-suite? My husband and I are light sleepers who don't suffer from mal de mer. What's the difference between categories BA and BD, for instance? Simply location? TIA!

Eridahn, <BR>I had a balcony on Dawn. I don't believe there is any difference. I got the cheapest available and it was private. The separation between balconies is a full length frosted glass door. You can hear the neighbors, if they're out there, but you can't see, try as I might. <BR>It's very nice to here the waves at night. <BR> <BR>Mike

Eridahn - You mention that you hope to get some "private sun" on the balcony. I hope you're aware that there aren't lounge chairs on the "regular" balconies, because there isn't room for them. There's just room for two resin chairs and a tiny resin table. Also, with the wall and overhand there's not a lot of sun coming in. It's kind of a window-sized opening. But it's worth it for the breeze and the sound of the water all night. <BR> <BR>

I would book a balcony guarantee, which assures you of a balcony, but doesn't preclude you from getting a suite( long shot).I would also book it with a large cruise only T/A, so your chances of being upgraded ie. midships,etc are enhanced because of the volume the agency does!

The difference in BA and BD is how high up you are in the ship. BD is higher up in the ship. I personally would book a balcony quarantee which you pay for a lower price, but may get upgraded to a better/higher category.
