How small is the cabin bathroom?
Hi,<BR>I will be cruising on the Carnival Holiday this summer and am wondering about the size of the bathroom. There will be myself, my husband, and 2 teenage children in one cabin. My concern is when we are trying to all get ready for dinner. Is the bathroom so small that it won't be possible to get dressed in there? Do the bathrooms have a lighted mirror/large vanity area? Are the bothrooms so small that you can't turn around without bumbing into yourself or are they nice sized?<BR><BR>Thanks for your help.

bathrooms are so tiny that they only accommodate 1 person at a time, unless one is in the shower, and one is on the john...and I am serious--<BR><BR>Think of 2 feet and 4 feet and that is roughly the space allotted for a bathroom on most cruise ships unless you have a suite and it has a shower and tub...<BR><BR>All the other cabins just have showers--<BR><BR>You will need to get ready in shifts...<BR>And there is NO way you can get dressed in there unless you are a size 0 and tossing a dress over your head....

Forgot to add- Bathroom lighting is good- and there is also normally a desk/make up area inside the actual room of the cabin-- not inside the bathroom..<BR><BR>No way can you put on makeup if someone is taking a shower- the steam would kill you for sure....

The old joke about cruise ship bathrooms is that they are a "religious experience". When you see one you usually say "Oh my G-d!!!...They are usually welll laid out with storage space and the desk in the cabin has plenty of spce for pluggng in hair dryers and electric shavers. My very favorite hint that I can give you is to buy an inexpensive plastic shoe bag..and hang it on the outside of the bathroom door to use for storage of suntan lotions, shampoos, conditioners,first aid kid and other "necessities" that the four of your might be sharing.

Size of the bathroom depends upon the ship. I'll be sailing Radisson's Navigator in May and I hear their bathrooms are huge in relation to the norm. What I've done over the years is to get ready in "shifts," giving each person the entire cabin while the other(s) remain at the pool, bar or wherever. That works really well!

Thanks.<BR><BR>Cruiseboy2 - after I booked I heard some negative things about the holiday, but its too late to change I've already booked it. Also it leaves out of New Orelans which is so convenient for us. And this is our first cruise so since I don't have a really great ship to compare it to I'll probably think the holiday is great I hope.<BR><BR>Thanks<BR>

glad you liked the shoe bag hint...I use it for sandals, woolite, clothes pins, flashlight and all sorts of extras.. this way the steward finds it easier to clean the cabin and of course everybody knows where everything else is. The other hint I've seen people use is walkie talkies to keep in touch with each other (especially kids). I use colored posties to leave messages on doors or reminders. For more ideas write me at [email protected] We have enough problems with luggage for two people I can't imagine four in a cabin.

I'm a 5'8" size 10. My husband is a 5'10" averaged sized guy.<BR><BR>So lets hope the holiday bathrooms are as roomy as the celebrity bathrooms. IMHO you can't even turn around in an airplane bathroom.

Sorry to say that the Holiday is an OLD ship, the bathrooms are very small as I recall. The newer ships have larger cabins and bathrooms for the most part. Yes, ships on Holland America do have larger bathrooms, even their older ships. You might want to look into getting 2 cabins next door to each other (or even adjoining). From my recollection of the Holiday, I can't imagine sharing the tiny cabin with 2 teenagers. The cabins are fine for 2, but really not suitable for 4.

I don't know how it compares to other cruise lines since it was the only cruise I've ever been on, but the bathroom we had on the Holiday was more than adequate. It's definitely a one person at a time bathroom, but we took turns. We were 3 women sharing an interior cabin and we didn't have a hard time getting ready for dinner. Maybe it was because we had the late seating, but it certainly helped that one of us always went to the room early to get ready and no one took extra long showers. If you're feeling self conscious (like I was) there's definitely room to get dressed in there, but nowhere to hang your clothes. Bring a couple of hangers, the room only has the no-hook variety. The vanity and hair dryer plug are in the room. The light's good enough to put your makeup on sitting on the bed if you have to.<BR><BR>I was worried too after reading all the bad reviews, but we had a great time. You'll work it out when you get there and it's only a 4 (or 5) night cruise.

Ktyson I don't know if the set up of the Holiday is the same as the Carnival ships that I have been on but, if the closet is across from the bathroom let me share our trick. My husband heads to the room while my daughter and I are still at the pool. After his shower he is content to watch tv. My daughter showers next. She dries off in the bathroom then we open the bathroom door and the closet door. This seperates her from my husband so that she can get dressed while I start my shower.

I didn't see the category of cabin you booked for the family. Like most ships, I would think certain higher priced cabins have bigger bathrooms even on the Holiday. Why it isn't always best just to book the best price. I've stayed in small cabins and I've stayed in penthouse suites (though I never go Carnival) and bathrooms differ. They also tend to be bigger on certain cruise lines. But not Carnival from what I've heard.

Well originally we were going to go to Paris and London for our vacation, but with all that is going on in the world I didn't think going to Europe was a good idea. Frankly, since 9/11 flying scares the crap out of me. My husband really hates flying. He even hated it before 9/11. Anyways my husband more then I always wanted to go on a cruise. So since we didn't feel comfortable going to Europe this year I decided that we would try a cruise (our first). What made me choose the holiday was 2 things. since I have never been on a cruise before I just wanted to do a 4 or 5 day cruise. My thought was if I don't like it at least its not a whole week. If I do like it as much as most people do then we could plan a longer one next time. I also wanted a ship that did not leave from Florida. I live in the midwest and New Orleans was perfect. We were also considering the 4 day cruise out of Galviston, but its a lot easier to get to New Orleans. So in a nutshell I wanted a 4 or 5 day cruise out of New Orleans and the Holiday fit the bill. Unfortunately I didn't do any investigation of the Holiday or CCL before I booked. I hope its not as horrid as some people say it is.
