Which Island for young kids?

My husband and I are thinking about heading to the Caribbean for a week at the end of April with our 4 and 5 year old boys. We've never been so we aren't sure which island is for us.

Our boys LOVE the beach, but hubby is not a big beach person.

We'd like a place that we can go hiking and maybe visit some attractions geared towards kids (like a museum or aquarium). We aren't looking to spend our week on a lounge chair. We like to be active and go.

Thanks.

Grand Cayman. The kids can visit Sting Ray City, the Turtle farm and Dolphin Discovery. Also can go hiking in Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and see the Blue Iguanas.

My kids loved Grand Cayman when they were little. We used to go nearly every year. If you rent from one of the many condo complexes on the beach, you'll have more space and a kitchen available. There used to be a U.S. style grocery store just across the street from where we stayed ( Villas of the Galleon). Expensive prices, but we were able to save a bit on not going on for breakfast/lunch. Good luck!

We took our kids to Aruba and they really enjoyed it. Of course the beach is great but there are also other things for the kids ( butterfly farm, Philips Animal Garden) . You can also rent a jeep and drive around the island and visit Arikok National Park. There are various other types of activity tours you can do as well. Aruba is not lush and tropical like many islands, so you won't find tropical rain forests or anything like that, but the arid and desert landscape of Aruba had it's appeal. The main town of Oranjestad is attractive but not especially interesting, however, it's worth an afternoon of exploration. I would definitely return for a trip with the kids.

In addition to Genio67 pertaining to Aruba there is also the Ostrich Farm. I think this would be appealing to the age group. You can also visit Baby Beach where kids can walk out a great distance in the water and still be waist high. You would need a car or go on a jeep tour to get there. I also went on a tour that included a visit to caves. Not sure kids would like it, depends on the kids. They might find it way cool or not at all.(??) It is bright in there. I see many families in Aruba with all age brackets. There are little horse/donkey rides usually in this one part of town in the p.m.

There is a water light show every p.m. as well. Small things, I know but something to see and do that might entertain kids.

There is also a tour that takes you underwater in a submarine type vessel. It is like diving only inside the boat. Might be nice there are porholes to see. Pirate ship tours, you can take as well.

I don't usually equate the island with a lot of kids activities. The Divi Phoenix is a great place to stay and the water there is on a inlet of some type and there are not waves. Safe for kids and right on the beach.
