Travel insurance?

Has anyone purchased travel insurance? Do you recommend a specific company? I am pre-paying my trip to Atlantis (hotel and meals) a month in advance. With all of the hurricane talk recently.....We are taking our trip in Oct. I believe our trip is non refundable. So, any suggestions?

I recently bought travel insurance for the first time, and did it through insuremytrip.com. I bought it because there is a significant nonrefundable expense on this trip, so I figured better safe than sorry. You can compare the insurance from many different companies. Most of them are basically the same, with some details different. I ended up buying with Travelex, had some additional features I liked. The cost is very reasonable.

I just got a quote for insurance for $89/person.....you can supposedly cancel for any reason and get a full refund. I definitely intend to read the fine print and see if its worth it. In this day and age, plus the threat of hurricanes, it seems worth it on face value.

Lizzie, Where did you find insurance at 89 per person that you can get a refund for any reason? I have found the insuremytrip.com website and can get hurricane insurance, but if US Air goes under, I have prepaid my hotel and meals, but will possibly be stranded at the gate.

My travel agent offered the insurance to me. Like I said, I have not received the info on it yet so have not had the opportunity to read the fine print. I'm assuming it would not cover me for USAirways going under, but I don't know for certain (which is why I asked the question under USAirways post). I don't know what kind of proof is needed....say if you cancelled because of a death or illness in the family....do you need to provide proof?

I will follow up with my travel agent and try to get more info.

We purchased travel insurance recently for an up coming trip to St. John in Sept. through CSA at csatravelprotection.com/ They received high recommendation from a couple that had to actually use the insurance and were very happy with their coverage and service. We paid $109 total for the trip insurance!
