Aparently my message was not correctly sent and uploaded in the system.
A new try:
My wife and I are going to Cuba in November. For different reasons, we only have 1 week and already have a ticket to Varadero without accomodation yet. But we don't want to stay in a *******resort in Varadero.
We are used to travel with backpacks and to stay in local hotels/pensions.
Can anybody help us to find a proper hotel (run by locals) in or near Varadero where we can feel the real cuban life with salsa, rum, chatting with the locals, ...
or has a suggestion to go when arriving.

Greetings, Wim.

You will not meet the local Cubans in Varadero because this area is forbidden for ordinary cubans. I will recommend you to go go Playe del Este (about 20 kilometres east of Havana) instead. There you will get in touch with real life in Cuba and at the same time you can enjoy the beatiful landscape and beaches. Try hotel Horizontes. Nils
