SXM Airport?

I just read a post on St. Barths Online about how truly horrible the new St. Maarten airport is. Has anyone been through it on the way to St. Barths lately?

I am not sure why the posts say it is horrible.
the airport is new large and modern. It is of course not comletely finished.
it is compeltely air conditioned and the shops that are open in the departure lounge are modern and attractive.
what a lot of people don't like about it is that it sort of looks like an airport anywhere else.
It is not particularly have any charm but it is what was needed to handle the large number of visitors passing through.

The new airport is indeed a disaster, I could regale you with a bunch of stories about lost luggage, locked doors, unhelpful staff, cancelled planes etc etc

There are several companies offering a transfer service through St Maarten.

www.premiumiv.com is one

SXM use to have vip service to hotels
in St. Martin, boats to Anguilla and St. Barts. The name was Caribbean Vip--very similar to the link waring posted in
St. Barts. But it is my understanding
that these companies can no longer meet and greet on the tarmac, or expedite
you thru immigration.
Does anyone have any "new" info?

the new airport is not a disaster.
not sure where you people get your info.
I flew in and out of it this weekend with no problems. obviously it is new, not completely finished and they are still working out efficent services.
Give them a break!
every new facility has its growing pains

Good response, Barbara. Any new facility needs the kinks worked out.

The airport is fine. It is no worse than some others I have been through in the US. Don't worry about it.

I was mainly worried about missing my connecting flights - that's what I had read about. I hope that they plan to have the kinks worked out by the time the high season begins. Thanks for the feedback, by the way - positive and negative.

Missing connecting flights has nothing to do with the airport being new or old. Flights are delayed there all the time. But it really is not a new problem. We have missed several connections there, but it is usually flights being delayed leaving the US. A couple of times we have flown SXM-MIA and have missed our connecting in MIA. No reason was given for the delay. However, you hopefully will have no issues at all. If you miss your flight to st barths you can always take the ferry. GL
