St. John Honeymoon: Condo OK?

Hi,

We're looking for a place to stay on St. John in June, and absolutely love the idea of renting a villa. But it seems like a lot of the villas I like are already booked (and the travel agent said I was doing EARLY planning!). If a villa in our price range ($1500) isn't available, are condos like Lavender Hill, Cruz Views or Gallows Point ok for a honeymoon? I know it won't offer the same amount of privacy, but will it still be a romantic setting?

I think those areas are nice. You may want to check out http://www.usvi-on-line.com/usviforum.html for a more active board where I'm sure you can get more info.

My only advice would be to inquire about construction going on anywhere near where you may think about staying.

Rocky,

I just completed a wonderful vacation at a villa in St. John. We rented through a local island resident who manages about 10 properties. Our villa, called Altamira, had a hot tub, pool and spectacular view, with lots of privacy and close to town. Cost was about $1500. We're going back next year, we loved it so much. This agency is very good and excellent to work with. All of the properties on their web site look good. Check it out at www.privatehomesvi.com. Good luck and congratulations.

Hi RockyJ,

Gallows Point is a wonderful, quiet, in-town location and beautiful villas... very clean and a great spot for watching the boating traffic in and out of the harbor.

We have always rented a private home on Hart Bay through Cateredto.com... a little higher priced than what your looking for, but they may have something in your range.

I still think Gallows Point would be a wonderful choice for your honeymoon.

Congrats!

We stayed at Lavender Hill several years ago. While it's a great location (easy walk to the restaurants and shops of Cruz Bay) and we had a nice view from our balcony, I would not describe it as "romantic." The pool was small and chilly. We were awoken very early every morning by the sound of the first ferry arriving from St. Thomas. Several nights we were kept awake by loud music at the outdoor bar down the street. We LOVED St. John and would return in a heartbeat but I'd find a villa outside of Cruz Bay for a honeymoon.

Have you checked with Carefree Getaways? They have several villas in your price range. Also, don't limit yourself to only a one or two-bedroom villa. Many of the larger villas have reduced rates for 2 persons. We rented a beautiful 3-bedroom villa with a hot tub and incredible view from them last year and the off-season rate (we went in late May) was only $1400 for just 2 of us.

Here's their website:

Good luck and have a great trip!

Everyone,

Thank you so much for the help and advice. After I checked out a few of the recommended sites, I realized there are far more villas and homes available than I originally thought. St. John sounds perfect, I can't wait!
