Prescription Drugs & Bermuda Customs

Can someone tell me about bringing prescription drugs into Bermuda?
I thought that bringing the prescribed amount in it's original container with my name that matches my name on my passport, Dr's name, etc (as it came from the drug store), and only enough for the days I will be in the country would be OK. The person I am traveling with called Bermuda Customs and was told you also have to have a letter from your doctor and a copy of the preserciption as well. Anyone on this forum run into this? I am concerned because my trip is in a few days and my doctors office is closed while he and his staff are on vacation. Thanks for any advice.

I googled your question and found this website:

http://www.bermudatourism.com/Customs.pdf

I can't verify that it is actually from the Bermuda tourism board, but it seems legit. Doesn't say anything about having to have a copy of the prescription. It pretty much says what you thought. Maybe print IT and bring it with you? I've just never heard of anything as strict as what that person told your friend????

We went in July. Carry on only.
Left the bottles in suitcase. No problem. Ditto vitamins etc.
even my asthma spray.

I have to add that I never gave it a thought. Ditto in going to Antigua,
and Anguilla. Also have never been asked. When the "new" tsa rules
came out I use to show them in
the tray before x-ray machine in
the USA and departing the islands.
The rules were more enforced at that
time---

Bermuda is an island that is having a hard time cracking down on drugs (I wonder how hard can it be to crack down on people selling drugs on an island of 60,000, but not for me to question). When we were there, we were only told to not bring any prescription drugs with us when we went into town.
I think if you have narcotic drugs, then I would bring extra documentation from your files as your doctors office is closed.
