Just Booked Cap Juluca...advice needed!

Hi all,
My fiance just booked Cap Juluca for our honeymoon in November! I found it via this board and am so thrilled...now down to the details...

For anyone that has stayed there--is there any particular area/building that we should request to be in? We booked the luxury room, which is one step above the standard rooms.

Also, what kind of spending money should we expect to go through?? I understand the food is pretty pricey on Anguilla in general. And I would venture to say all our evening meals will include 1-2 bottles of wine (big wine drinkers!!).

Thanks so much in advance for help you can provide!

Stacey

You will have a room already assigned when you arrive at CJ. November is high season, so changing rooms may well be tricky if you wish to do so.
Villa 19 is the farthest one all the way down the beach from the main house, so if you want privacy, one of the higher numbered villas would be better. The lower numbered villas will have a bit more noise from George's restaurant and the beach BBQ.

Villas 14-19 are the ones with the private pools (not shared by all rooms). These are a bit newer.
Villas 1-12 were the original villas. George's restaurant is between villas 6 and 7. The main house is next to villa 1.
There is no villa 13.

You can check menus and prices for many of the restaurants on Anguilla. I've lost my bookmark, but if you do a simple search for Anguilla restaurants I'm sure you'll find it. Typical entrees at the better restaurants are about $22-40, desserts $6-12, appetizers $7-12 as of 2003. The wines we had weren't too much higher than the (overpriced) wines we get at most decent restaurants in the US.

Favorite restaurants:
Pimm's at CJ.
Oliver's (see online menu)---just across the island on the north side from CJ (you have too look a bit for the sign, and the road is pretty beat up).
Trattoria Tramonto (Italian)---by CoveCastles down on Shoal Bay West.
Mango's (see menu online)---turn left (west) on the main road out of CJ.
Tasty's (on main road east of CJ)---great for a lunch or casual evening meal, don't let the name or location steer you away.
Koal Keel---just west of The Valley, drive into town to catch the road.
Straw Hat---(see online menu and webcam) on the south shore on a pier, see road signs directing you there.

Hi Stace99,

First of all congratulations! We will be at Cap in Nov. also for our anniversary

Cap Juluca does not accept requests...the good news is there is no bad location. Every villa has a breathtaking view. go to www.travelhop.com for great views of cap. As for spending money well that depends, we went last Nov and spent $3500.00, and we had the romantic rendezvous package. We ate at Altamars for our anniversary, with wine cost us almost $400.00. Scilly Cay can run you up to $150.00 for 2, depends on what you eat and drink, but Scilly Cay is on the more expensive side...and a must do! Other dinners cost $150...175...to 200 with drinks and extra tip. The tip is already included in the bill, but we always leave extra. here is another website I'm sure you have seen www.news.ai/ and www.iloveanguilla.com. There are links to the restaurants and menus, so you can see the prices for yourself. Personally we travel with a lot of cash, we never charge, and use a debit/Master Card, so if we come home with any money - YIPPEE! Hey life is short, when on vacation do and have what you want right?? There are also excursions you may wnat to take, like sunset sails on a catamaran (Chocolat) which is about $50.00 pp. Cap can arraange this for you. I also suggest renting a car as a cab fare can cost you more than the price of a car rental per day, Cap will also arrange this for you. Hope this helps! I know our budget is on the high side and did not mean to put anyone's hair in curl, that is the way we travel, but I'm sure you will get much more advice with different opinions. The websites should give you a good idea though.

Thanks so much, Sandyfeet and GPlimpton! You both had such good info for us!

Sandyfeet-we are going to be there Nov-9-17th, maybe our trips will overlap! We are doing the Romantic Rendevous package on this trip and do intend to rent a car for a few days to explore.

GPlimtpon-Thanks so much for the restaurant info...that really, really helps! And I had no idea we couldn't at least "request" a certain building/area. So I guess 14-19 (the newer buildings you referred to) are out if we aren't springing for the private pool villas, hmmm....

Any other thoughts?? Thanks so much for the quick replies!!

Hey we will be there from the 8-17! By the way the tranquility Jazz Festival will be the 14-16. I have never been but I hear its great. The informantion is on one of the websites I gave you!

there really isn't too much more info about Anguilla. It is a very laid back, restful, beautiful island with wonderful people. There is not a lot of planning needed, just relax and let the island unfold.

The differences between the older and newer villas are minimal, and the room type you reserved is available in villas 14-19, so no way of knowing where they'll place you.
The pool villas have a private enclosed pool, but the buildings themselves also house rooms which don't have access to the pools.

You can read a number of recent restaurant reviews and these may be helpful in allowing you to select those that fit your goals and tastes.

Hope you have a great time.

CJ always honored my requests. Luxury Jr. Suites (that's what it sounds like you have) are the most common type. Each building contains 3 "rooms" up and 3 down. All are nice, but my preference is to be up, either in the middle room (I've forgotten the way the letters work, but I think that's "E&quot or in the room to the left (if you are facing the water) as that room gets a better breeze and less afternoon scorching. The middle room is neat, because the private roof sunning area is your and yours alone. VERY private and perfect for a honeymoon. Note that all rooms have a private sunning area, but the middle top one's area is the entire roof.

Thanks, Steve! You've given me hope. Yes, the private sun deck would be a bonus(that is, if I can EVER tear myself away from that beautiful beach). Also, sounds like that would be a good place for an end-of-day cocktail!

And Gplimpton, thanks for the heads-up on the recent restaurant reviews. My fiance is going to kill me if I don't stop printing out reviews and making little notes everywhere!! There are so many places I want to try. And the menus I've seen online are mouth-watering. Can I start packing now??

You guys are awesome!
