Girlfriends Getaway

In search of a girlfriends getaway, for divorced women in their 40's.. We are looking for a 5-7 day vacation, reasonably priced (under $1200.00 per person). We plan to go around August 10th. Does anyone have any suggestions for good All-Inclusive resorts, and things to do? We enjoy the beach, shopping, and daytime activities, as well as nightlife.

hi karevak, the most moderately priced ai's are on dominican republic and in mexico.
i would advise you look at the resorts near playa del carman on the maya riviera - about an hour south of cancun.
cancun is easy to fly to from almost everywhere.
playa is a medium sized town. tons of fun shopping on '5th avenue' - a main street closed to vehicles & packed with shops, and offers clubs to party at night. if you choose a Large ai they will have a nightclub or 2 for you to play in at night also.
the beach is wonderful in some spots (this changes due to beach erosion. - ppl on mex section of fodors latin america board can tell you which resorts are best right now)
day time activities include golf/tennis, scuba/snorkeling, atv jungle tours, zip-line, horseback, fishing, tours of ruins (tulum, chichen itza, coba are day trips), eco marine parks - xcaret & xel-ha, cenotes & caves.
more to do than you could possibly pack into a week.
this site will give you copious info on the area: http://www.locogringo.com/ i see some pdc ai's are on sale.
this page lists many pdc area ai's: http://www.playacarallinclusive.com/
i traveled to this area with 2 ladies and while we rented a house and did not go out often at night we did feel very safe at all times.
fyi: mex will be hot & humid in august and it is hurricane season so you might want to consider trip insurance.
aruba is another option. supposed to be out of hurricane zone. i've not been though, so can't offer much info. there is some shopping and nightlife.

Hi karevak. Virginia has given you excellent information. Another island noted for its all-inclusives is Jamaica. Since you are looking for AI you should look into that island as well. Sorry I can't help with specific resorts but I do know that many of them cater to those seeking a more active vacation.

Hey Karevic:

Check out Moon San Villa at the Blue Lagoon in Port Antonio, Jamaica. www.moonsanvilla.com

This is a very remote area where musicians and movie stars like to hang out. It is Jamaica's secret.

One love!

Thanks Everyone for all of your great suggestions. I will definately look into those. I have been to Cancun and love it there, however I do worry about hurricanes during that time of year.
