Gansevoort location

Hello! I am a first time poster but have been reading the forum the past few days and have seen good insight so I was hoping you could help. My gf and I just booked a 4 night stay at the Gansevoort in late June. My questions mainly relate to the location of the hotel...I am interested in dining at other restaurants but I'm concerned about the distance - it seems the Gansevoort is far from most of the other establishments of Grace Bay. Is this true? I'd rather not have the hassle of driving - are taxis really that expensive or is a rental a necessity to really enjoy the island?? Any nice, romantic places you could recommend that are relatively close for dinner. What about lunch - can we walk to other places during the day or are we stuck with Bagatelle or taking a $30 taxi ride to another hotel? When I was originally booking the room I almost went with the Regent Palms...now I'm thinking I should have stayed with the Palms all along. Should I be concerned with my choice of the Gansevoort??? This will be the first time to T&C so we wanted to start out on a positive. Sorry for all the questions but any thoughts or tips you could offer on what I should be aware of would be fantastic

ps - I was going to book a half day with Caicos Dream Tours. Is this a good tour?

Yes, The Gansevoort is at the far end of Grace Bay BUT, you can walk next door to West Bay Club ( Atlantic Grill restaurant) or beyond that to Turks & Caicos Club ( I think just lunch now, no dinner anymore) then beyond that to Coral Gardens for Texmex at Somewhere on the Beach. You can walk past Coral Gardens, Beaches, then you will walk past many resorts and great lunch spots...I would not walk that far at night. The better restaurants for dinner that you may want to try are NOT walkable and you will need a taxi. You must check out Coco Bistro , O'Soleil at The Somerset and Bay Bistro at The Sibonne. We rent from Grace Bay Car Rentals, older cars, excellent service and $39.00/day --pays for itself after a taxi ride or 2. Then you can lunch at Da Conch Shack (In Blue Hills, not Grace Bay area) We love Caicos Dream Tours. Have fun !!

Great - thanks for the prompt response. I reviewed the restaurants you mentioned and they all seem fantastic! I'll look into car rentals when I arrive but may try a taxi first just to get an idea of their prices. One question - how far of a walk down the beach are the resorts/lunch spots you mentioned...more than a mile or two? Thanks again!

West Bay club-1 minute
T&C Club-5 minutes
Coral gardens-10 minutes ( max)
Regent Palms, Somerset area no more than 25 minutes away walking the beach. Just past them the Sands ( Hemingways for lunch)

fairfax, taxi prices are as much or more than a daily car rental! From Gansevoort you really should rent a car to get to the best restaurants.

The other places are great to walk to for lunch, but at night can be pretty dark, and you pass thru some abandoned construction from the beach, some shaddy areas by the sidewalks, so a car would be much better to have, especially at night. It's easy to drive around, you can rent a tiny "tuna can" car for $29 daily thru Avis, of a toyota corolla for $39 thru Grace Bay Car Rentals. Taxi will easily put you out $33-$50 round trip for 1 trip.

Ok, I'm convinved I will definitely be renting a car. I think it will also help with getting some groceries. Thanks again for all the input!
