Eleuthera, Andros, or Abacos??Which one is tops?

We are traveling in May 99 to either Eleuthera, Andros Island, or Abaco in the Bahamas for a combination honeymoon/college graduation. Do you have any comments or advice on any of these islands. We want semi-seclusive accomodations, beautiful beaches and good snorkeling. Good food would be nice, too. We are not much into the partying scene. Any ideas or comments? Thanks.
We just got back from Eleuthera (stayed at Cove Eleuthera). Eleuthera was wonderful....Magnificinet beaches where it was just the 2 of us...UNBELIEVABLE! Rented a car and took ferry ride to English Harbor and Spanish Wells. Very very relaxing and wonderful vacation. Ate at hotel on their meal plan ($33.00 per day for breakfast & dinner) with a beautiful beautiful full menu. Place we stayed at has a total of 26 rooms. Six were occupied and we met very lovel East Coast people. Would highly recommend Eleuthera. If any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me. Wherever you go...Have fun!!

Hi,

We need help. We're trying to make vacation plans to celebrate the millineum. We would like to be in the carribean somewhere but everywhere we call says they don't know when they'll start booking. I quandry is we don't want to miss the opportunity to book something and where we should go. There will be about 3 couples. We sure could use some helpful insight or advice.

Thank you in advance.

Kathleen Peardot

Veronica--this is a very interesting
group of islands that you are considering. Eleuthera is lovely--has
a golf course (Cotton Bay Club) where
we stayed, and I would endorse. Lovely
beach and property. We also stayed at
Harbour Island and that is historic and
charming. So you have two options there. Andros is a wonderful diving and snorkeling island--Small Hope Bay is the
place to stay. The accomodations are
somewhat like camp (divers do not care) and the food is terrific. There is
nothing to do but bike around a little
bit. There is a batik factory there
as well (just a little side-light).
Abaco has many little islands--we stayed at Green Turtle Cay. Great facilities--very nice owners--lots of
boaters there. We rented a boat (with
a driver) and toured some of the other
Cays--Treasure, Man O'War, and Hopetown.
The diving was not very good, but the
snorkeling in back of Green Turtle Cay
was excellent. Oh, yes, you can boat
into Marsh Harbor and that is a quaint
little town. Research all of these not
only on the internet, but get a Fodors
book and Frommers. Fieldings might
publish one as well. Enjoy your trip.
I want to go to San Salvador and Bimini--mabe the Cat Islands too. If you enjoy the Bahamas, look into the Turks and Caicos. E-mail me if you have
any questions.

Been to Green Turtle Cay off Abaco and loved it. I've heard only good things about the main Abaco island and Eleuthera. I've been told that Andros is for deep sea divers and naturalists due to its Everglades-like topography. It is the reputed home of the Chicharney, some sort of Bahamian leprachaun.
