We heard about a neat experience in BVI where you could feed Rays and swim with them. Is there anything like that in TCI? We are staying right next to Smiths Reef, and love to see wildlife.

The only place to swim with the stingrays is Gibbs Cay over at Grand Turk. Requires a rt flight ($160) from Provo. Makes actually a great dy trip, but you have to plan it wisely to avd the cruise ship crowds.

ocdm - if you snorkel at smiths reef you will! see/swim with spotted eagle rays.

please please do not attempt to feed/touch them. if you must try this, plan a trip to grand cayman & take the stingray city excursion, where they will swim right up to you and you can touch them or go to st. thomas where you can go to coki world to see/touch/feed their captive rays. feeding wild animals is never a good option as it teaches that animal to be dependant on humans & may reduce it's ability to feed naturally.
the thrill of seeing one purely by chance is much more exciting than seeing them on gc or st.t.
smith's reef has some very shallow spots - please be oh so careful not to touch the reef with you hands or especially your flippers - kills the reef.

I agree with Virginia, it is not superior in VI, both are terrific scuba destinations.

I think it's easier to snorkel from shore in T and C, where as travel is involved for that at VI depending where you stay.

t and C also has excellent Snuba, which is unique, and submersible submarines.

Both are terrific destinations, I'm crazy for both, but they are different from each other and offer different experiences.

Actually we are already going to TCI in a couple weeks after months of putting plans together. Getting excited!!! Out house is apparently in front of Smiths Reef. I can't say I am a great snorkler but have really enjoyed diving in Hawaii and Mexico. Great advise about the reef and the rays, I don't want to upset the ecosystem for sure. I probably feel the same when I see the fools trying to feed bears and deer in our national parks! Anyway just looking for the "don't miss" wildlife experiences! Thanks for all the advise over the past months!
