cottages for couples on Eleuthera

Has anyone stayed at Hakuna Matata or On the Rocks, "Pebbles" cottage on Eleuthera? My wife and I like Eleuthera for our 2nd wedding anniversary...we honeymooned in St. Kitts and Nevis. We definately want something on the beach w/ nice, modern amenities, that is somewhat close to restaurants and other places. Thanks for your help.

Has anyone stayed at Cartwright's Cottages? Somebody keeps posting info about them, but it sounds like a proprieter to me. Anyone actually STAY there who can give us a first-hand opinion?

Hi Pete, I have vacationed in Eleuthera and stayed at and with Cartwrights Cottages, and believe you mean, since I travel alone, safty is a foremost concern, then to, kindness and consideration. I found all within Cartwright's Cottages, and much much more. Believe me, once you have stayed with Mrs. Cartwright, you will return again and again. It will indeed, be the best homeymoon, you and your wife will have ever experienced. If you would like, feel free to contact me via email for I love to share my experiences there with all those who share the interests of good will, peace and quiet, and you will find there, true meaning of the word God, a 24 hour church service without mention of God, but within the hearts of the people there. They are kind, devoted good people, whom I would wish to never leave, but stay for the rest of my entire days. And when I left, I wept with tears of joy, and saddness, for I did not want to leave. A great place a grand awakening, selclusion if you so wish, and/or, you will make friends of the likes you have not known before. My best, and many happy wishes for a wonderful fulfilling
joyful anniversery, Congratulations and many happy returns. Lee J.

Joan,

I think the proprieter has been posting. After reading Lee's posting on another thread I did an online search. Came up with quite a few hits on various message boards, most from different people, but the postings were all written in the same style and had the exact same content (some were obviously cut and pastes) followed by an email address for making reservations. Suspicious.

Pete, then based on your criteria, you might want to look at Harbour Island instead. There is not much to see or do on Eleuthera and most people who stay there, are looking for just quiet and cook most of their meals.

Eleuthera is 110 miles long and to get anywhere you have to have a car and going anywhere you are driving a long way. Govenours Harbour to almost any restaurant will take a minimum of 20 minutes driving time. GH to North Eleuthera is at least a two hour drive.

If you are looking for amazing beaches and peace and quiet, then by all means you will like Eleuthera if you are looking for more like St. Kitts you will find it lacking in tourist amenities, and that's the reason alot of people choose Eleuthera.

Let me know if you need any more info.

tweedy
Pete, we stayed at Calypso once, and another time a modern home with an actual lighthouse, both in North Palmetto, bike-riding distance to the cottages you mention. There is NOT much in the way of restaurants on the island (go to Harbour Island for that as Tweedy says). For more cottages, check Vacationspot.com (I guess you may already have done that). The Lighthouse home had all the modern amenities you desire, if you want I will type in the ad I found in Caribbean Travel & Life magazine, and you can contact the owner. It was directly on the beach. No matter where you stay, you will need a car for sure. Some of the restaurants are 3/4 hour away.
Joan

I would like to thank Ashley and Joan for mentioning Cartwright's Ocean Front Cottages in Tarpum Bay , Eleuthera. I have been there twice and thanks to Lee J, who has also been there recently, I have only good compliments to say about the cottages. Eleuthera is more than just cooking accommodations and sunshine and beaches, there are snorkeling trips, kayaking tours, caves to explore and many local residents who make you feel at home away from home.A beach bash can be found almost every weekend on the island, you jsut have to know what is happening on the island. Most of all Cartwright's offers a special quality they are proud which is warm and friendly hospitality. Perhaps one day you should visit them to experience for yourselves, you wont be disappointed. You can email me personally if you have any questions about Cartwright's Cottages and Eleuthera as well. TO Pete,Have a great vacation where ever you decide to go.

FYI re my previous posting: I conducted my search after reading one of the posts by a satisfied "customer" because I thought it might be nice to visit on my next trip out.
But i'm not going to spend money on airfare and accomodations without making sure i'm getting what I want, nobody would. So I did a search. Unfortunately every single posting i've read about Carwright's on this board and others reads exactly like a travel brochure, therefore my earlier response to Joan. I'm sorry if i've offended anyone, but if it reads like a brochure, then there's a strong possibility it is a marketing ploy. Furthermore, the sheer lack of any type of recommendations or information by travel guides, online photos, or any info whatsoever from reputable sources simply led me to question all of these "satisfied customers" who just all happened to visit so recently, make their way to the travel board and post their many messages. Also, the fact that someone associated with the place (Doug from [email protected]) is actually hawking reservations on this site (against Fodor's policies) creates further suspicions. Sorry if I offended any real-life satisfied customers, but that's just my own opinion.

P.S. In response to your "Eleuthera" comment about my frequency of posting, the 4/5/01 posting was my first on any Eleuthera board.

To Ashley, who will remain anon for whatever reason, If you took the time to email the people who wrote about the cottages you would find that they just might be the real thing, I am happy to recommend Cartwright's Cottages as they deserve to be referred to many other visitors.Lee J another prior guest also wrote highly of Cartwright's Cottages. THey are clean, near the water and affordable with friendly staff. If you would like any specific details about the island of Eleuthera and the cottages feel free to email me.

Terry,

Call me a cynic, but I can also impersonate ten different people using ten individual email accounts on hotmail just as easily as anyone else. I wish to remain anon b/c I don't want spam, so shoot me!

Hakuna Matata is beautiful! As is Pebbles. Hakuna sits on Double Bay beach, a wide, calm, pink sandy beach. This home is rented a lot, so book early! It is perfect for a get away with the one you love. I have been going to Eleuthera for over 10 years and love the Double Bay area (my family owns a home there). Pebbles is also beautiful and has the great beaches of Palmetto Point. There are resturants in Palmetto Point and in Governor's Harbour (about 3 miles away). Your best bet is to fly into Governor's and then rent a car. Both homes are beautifully appointed and would give you all you want. Harbour Island is a great day trip, but I wouldn't call it a "get away" place. There are a lot of people there and resorts/hotels. Feel free to email me back directly if you need any more information. I just got back yesterday and already called for flights to go back in June.
