Boat races in Anguilla
My husband and I are going to Anguilla next week(8/6-8/11) and we will bw ther for the boat races. Has anyone been there this time a year to enjoy the festivities? Any suggestions? We are staying at Cuisinart do you think we should rent a car?How far are the festiviies from the resort?

We were there a couple of years ago during the boat races. It was interesting to watch the different teams lanuch and sail the boats. By the way, you can watch the boats from various vantage points around the island. Most of the "festivities" (such as they are) are not anywhere near your hotel. They mainly consist of eating and drinking at a beach bar while watching the boat races.
Yes, by all means rent a car. Nothing is really within walking distance of Cuisinart except Dune preserve and cab rides will get very expensive. Anguilla has 35 different beaches and over 80 restaurants spread out around the island, you'll want to visit as many as you can. Cabs will get very expensive. Two r/t's per day to almost anywhere on the island will cost you more than the rental car.

Yes, definitely rent a car!
We were in Anguilla in June for the Queen's birthday, which is a national holiday. The boat race we were expecting to see and what we actually experienced were two different things. 'm still really glad we were on island for it, but next time I'll know better what to do. We stayed at Carimar and the race, which we had been told would start at Sandy Ground and go counterclockwise around the island, actually was the opposite. I wish we had been at Sandy Ground for either the launch or the finish. As it was, by the time the dozen or sailboats made it round to Carimar, they were pretty far offshore and we were a little tired waiting for them. What was more fun was watching all of the locals who were following along with the race--they darted much closer to shore.
Next time we're in Anguilla for a boat race we'll know better how to take advantage of it.
But definitely rent a car! It's the easiest driving of any left-hand driving I've ever done. Lots of fun to explore and money saving, to boot.
