Best Beaches-Barbados and St. Maarten

Will be in Barbados and St. Maarten for a day each as part of a cruise in mid April. Any suggestions on the BEST beach to visit at each island? Thanks.

In St. Maarten we liked Bae Rouge for the snorkeling and Orient Beach for the atmosphere. Although with El Nino I don't know what you'll find - friends were at Bae Rouge in February and could not swim because the water was so rough. Have fun!

Hi, We just returned from St. Martin (4-19). By far the best beach is Orient Bay. You`ll love it. Enjoy.

In Barbados, the ships usually arrange to take you to the Hilton for the day as they allow you to use their facilities. But the best beaches are up on the west coast, particularly Sandy Lane. The hotel is posh and doesn't let non-guests walk through the property unless you tell them you're going for lunch or drinks. All beaches in Barbados are open to the public and there is a public access to the beach but it's kind of through some woods. The other alternative is to go up to "Bombas" which is a restaurant on the beach which will rent you chairs if you'd like and allow you to use their facilities. Plus it's a great little place to have lunch. Better than packing it in with all the people from the ship at the Hilton!

Just returned from two weeks-been there 4 times
Best Beach-Bar None:
Dawn Beach-Hard to get to-follow signs for Mr. Busbys Beach Bar-only about 30 people on 1 mile strand of one of the most picturesque beaches in the world.
Other world class beaches:
Orient(naturally), Baie Rouge, Cupecoy(don't go when the wind is from the southeast). Maho is interesting since the jets land right over the baech. Mullet is a pretty beach but is not kept since the parent hotel is out of business since Luis.

For a day in St. Maarten, consider hot-footing it to the ferry dock in Marigot and taking a ferry (30 minutes?) to Anguilla for the day. There, Shoal Bay or, even better, Sandy Isle, are stunningly beautiful and worth the effort.
