We are looking to spend a week in October and have been drawn to little Dix in virgin Gourda and Carlisle bay in Antigua. We would love to hear thoughts on either. Looking for great food, activities during the day, clear water, beautiful views, smaller resort. Thanks!

OK, Virgin Gorda---quiet, but gorgeous. Little Dix, top quality. The Baths are outstanding.
Antigua----we've been there twice. The 2nd time was only to catch a sailboat or we never would have gone back. Many love it, but to us it was a bit scary. The high-end resorts are lovely if you stay in them.
On top of that, when we returned fom the sailboat, the airline went on strike and we were stuck. The town & casino area is seedy.
Of course, this is just one persons opinion. As I said, many love the island.
Virgin Gorda unspoiled beautiful best beahces etc.
littledixbay.com wonderful if budget is good.
Antigua St James Club my fav dodgier more action
mostly european/brit beach casino corwd vibe check your consular advisories carefully lots of petty theft outside the upscale resort."Sir" Allen Stanford the investment scammer
holds his knighthood from Antigua from corrupt officials currently pretending he forgot all he stole from trusting seniors in federal prison in the US. So kind of dodgy but great in upscale resorts LOTS more to do. Check travel.state.gov to be sure you are up for it.
Happy Deciding!
forgot Oct storm season check weather2travel.com get hurricane cover if you go then. Better in fall for me Capella Pedregal Cabo or Big Island Kohala Coast Maunaa Kea for me less than 1 inch of rain all fall. stayhawaii.com
Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda (note there's no "u" in Gorda) is one of the best resorts in the Caribbean and Virgin Gorda is a terrific island. We've gone there multiple times even though we have a home on a different island. I'd rate the island as one of our favorites and give it a A+. Wonderful scenery, lots to do and see (or do nothing if you are so inclined), some of the clearest and brightest turquoise waters you'll find anywhere in the Caribbean.
Antigua, on the other hand, is just another island. Yes, it has 365 beaches but many are just tiny spits of sand. we wet once on vacation and the only other times we've set foot on the island is when our plane made a stop while en-route to a different island. Won't be going back for a visit any time soon.
In summary, go to Little Dix Bay, you won't be disappointed.
Another vote for VG, love it far more than Antigua.
I also vote for VG, It's beautiful. Little Dix is fantastic, top notch quality in every possible way.
