Airfare to St. Kitts???
Hi,
We are a family of 6 that are interested in St. Kitts mainly for the info we have read on the board. My children love to snorkel, we have a 250 gal tropical fishtank, so its kinda there hobby. Anyways,we were wondering if its feasible to take a flight to san juan, which is roughly $300.00 ata from chicago. Then make our own connection with nevis express into St Kitts? Would that be too complicated with 4 kids with check in and check out of each flight?? We have never been to the caribbean so any help would be appreciated.
Susan

American airlines (eagle) and liatairline fly from san juan (sju) to st. kitts (skb). It should not be a problem since most flights from usa go thru either san juan or miami to get to st. kitts/nevis/st. maarten, etc. Either way, there will be a plane change. Also try posting at caribbean-on-line.com.

I have always flown American to St. Kitts from Chicago, connecting through San Juan. Typically, the fare is in the $575-$650 range. I'm not familiar with other routings -- I guess you'd just have to price San Juan to St. Kitts. Connecting in San Juan should not be a major hastle -- it's not that difficult of an airport to navigate.

One warning: On your return flight, you will have to go through customs in San Juan, and you need to wait there for your luggage. For whatever reason, it always takes them a long time to get the luggage onto the carousels. I would recommend at least a 2 hour layover on your return flight. Twice I have had an 1.5 hour layover, and missed my connection. Another reason for the time issue is that the flights from St. Kitts often leave late -- again, I don't know why because it's mostly shuttle service between San Juan and St. Kitts -- but do allow 2 hours and you should be ok.
