Traveling from WI, USA to Tobago in Nov. 2002. Have not had much luck finding airfare that does not require overnight stay at a connecting point. Any suggestions?

I'm also from Wisconsin, and in the past have traveled to Tobago via Chicago and San Juan. That was when American Eagle had daily service between San Juan and Tobago. That ended about a year and a half ago. Now, it is possible to get there in one day if you take BWIA from Miami, with a stopover in Trinidad. The last time I looked, that flight was not available every day. Other than that, you will have to overnight in Trinidad. I'll be doing that this March.

I'll be staying at the Belair International Hotel which is right next to the airport, and flying to Tobago the next morning. I've never stayed there, but I understand it is pretty basic. That's fine since I'll be there less than 12 hours. They offer free airport transportation. Their e-mail address is [email protected]. I just booked our annual Holiday Getaway over Christmas. We are flying from Philly to Barbados and in Barbados we pick up a shuttle flight on Liat Airways to Tobago. No overnight stay. I booked the Liat flight on Travelocity..$199 per person roundtrip. Enjoy!

Lisa,<BR><BR>I used to work in the islands and traveled around them regularly. Used LIAT a number of times. Remember when you go to the islands, as Dorothy said to Toto, "I think we're not in Kansas anymore." Things are different there.<BR>We always joked that LIAT stood for Luggage Is Always Tardy, and sometimes we decided it meant Leaves Island Any Time. In those days (may not be true anymore) freight cargo was more valuable than passengers. If it came to a decision, the luggage was removed and the freight put onboard. A few times I saw passengers removed, too.<BR>With luck, the luggage arrived on the next plane.<BR>And schedules were viewed more as suggestions than hard and fast directives. If the pilot was ready to go 30 minutes before the schedule called for, off went the flight. Of course, if he wasn't ready when the schedule called for it, you didn't go anywhere until he decided he was ready.<BR>Now, I didn't tell you this to alarm you, but rather to make you aware.<BR>And any LIAT fans, I'm not insulting your airline, just telling things that happened to me over a couple years of flying the airline.
