Whistler accomodations and transportation

What is be the best way to get from Vancouver to Whistler in December. Are there shuttles that can be booked from downtown hotels? Also any recommendations on hotels in Whistler Village. Will $130 to $200 canadian get you a decent room for a family of three at this time of year? If not, how much should we budget? Thanks in advance for your help.

hello alan,
Last year my family was in Whistler and we took a shuttle from the Vancouver airport to Whistler. It goes by some hotels so I assume you can do that also.It is certainly the best way to travel because you do not need a car once in Whistler. We stayed in a small one bedroom apartment called Delta Whistler for about $200 per night. It was fine(the only drawback was the long walk with our ski boots to the chairlift). The year before we stayed in a condo which was a bit bigger and a little cheaper and you only had to cross the road to the chair lift(I do not remember the name but it was on blackcombe close to Chateau Whistler-to the left)you will not have any problem finding a place in your price range. The next time we go I will consider the Delta which is really close to the whistler chairlift(but it is only a hotel therefore no kitchen) if thats a concern. good luck

Louise, thanks for the information. I found a website for the shuttle services after seeing your message. Also found some listings for the Crystal Lodge, Whistler Village Inn and the Listel Whistler Hotel. Has anyone stayed at these properties? Would appreciate any input as they are in our price range. Thanks.

I've stayed at the Crystal Lodge. The location is right in the heart of the village where the restaurants are. It is also very close to the Whistler chair lifts. I think the property is about 3 stars according to AAA. You can send away to the Whistler tourist info for their free accomodation guide. I don't think you'll need to spend over $200 Cdn. per night for a mid-range hotel.

Another method of getting to Whistler is to take the BC Rail train. Web site is www.bcrail.com/bcr.

Oops, I goofed. BC Rail service only runs from May to October up to Whistler. However, if you check the web site www.whistler-resort.com you will find a lot of answers to your questions.

Hi Alan: I live near Whistler so I might be able to help with your questions. I have stayed at the Chateau which is a luxury hotel in the upper village. It is a mall itself with restaurants, bar and shops. Location is steps from ski lifts and it is surrounded by an assortment of shops and restaurants. It is not in the village itself but village is only a short walk (1/4 mi.) or a quick taxi ride away. I would stay here if your priority is to be closest to ski lifts.

Hi Alan:

I live near Whistler, and with your budget I would suggest staying at the Chateau Whistler. It is a luxury hotel in the upper village that is steps from the ski lifts. Hotel is a mall itself with fabulous restaurant, bar and shops. Assortment of shops, bars and restaurants in immediate area. It is about a 3-block walk to Village for other eateries and nightlife. If being close to ski lift is your priority I would choose this one!
