Victoria or Qualicum BEACH in winter

There is a possibility that we might need to winter in Canada this year - we have been going to Maui for years but this past winter he ended up in hospital and so I don't know whether he will get insurance or not. And besides that, the American dollar makes it very expensive! Would anyone recommend staying in Qualicum or Victoria throughout February and March until mid April or so. We live in Calgary and would like a bit warmer weather! Would you pick one place over the other?

I would pick Victoria as there is more to do there and the weather may be slightly better. Nothing like Victoria in early spring when all the blossoming trees are out.

I agree with raincitygirl - There is so much more to do in Victoria. Qualicum is very quiet in winter - summer is the time to be there. Our winters here are not bad at all - very seldom see snow. If you have any medical problems its best to be in Victoria as well - the drive down over the Malahat can be really bad at times. Nanaimo has a good hospital but the majority of the specialists are in Victoria.

I meant to add - there is nothing like Victoria in the early spring - the blossoms are gorgeous!

yes, for a longer term stay, i'd pick victoria but try to plan some 2-3 day trips to explore other areas. up north and tofino. day or overnight trips out to some of the islands. have never stayed here but have read good things about the "royal scot hotel and suites". i think it books up early. hope you have a nice time. everytime you wish you on the warm, beautiful maui beaches...remember how much money your saving with the exchange rate...got to think of the positive.
