Rocky Harbor and L'Anse aux Meadows lodging and food
To experience the Tablelands is it necessary to drive on both 431 to Trout River and 430 through Gross Morne? it is unclear from reading guidebooks and threads.
Can someone recommend a nice B&B or cottage and place to eat in Rocky Harbor? We enjoy good good, especially seafood.
Same for L'Anse aux Meadows, where I intend to stay the next night.

Well, to get to the Tablelands, you must take 431, and to get to 431, you must take 430. Have a look at the map.
I've stayed at Wildflowers B&B in Rocky Harbour, and found it quite good. The best dining in Rocky Harbour is probably the dining room at the Ocean View Motel.
The best place to stay near L'Anse aux Meadows is the Tickle Inn at Cape Onion, but you must book months in advance. Closer to L'Anse aux Meadows, you could try the Valhalla Lodge. I'm not familiar with lodging in the village itself, but the Norseman restaurant there is very good.

laverendrye, thank you for your response and taking me to task for not being specfic: what I meant to ask was are the moonlike Tablelands only accessed, and to be found, only by taking route 431? Or is the moonlike terrain found elsewhere in the park? If so, where? And if I leave 430 for 431 to see the Tablelands, is it worth going on to Trout River? What is in Trout River?
Thanks for you other suggestions on sleeping and eating in Rocky Harbor and near L'Anse aux Meadows. Best, RC

You can only get to the Tablelands by taking route 431. The Tablelands trail (an easy hike) starts right by the highway. Trout River is a small village in quite a pretty location on the coast. I would certainly take the opportunity to have a meal there at the Seaside Restaurant. It's one of the best in Gros Morne park. Trout River Pond (a lake) is nearby, but this summer the boat cruise on the pond had been discontinued.
If you are visiting the southern part of the park, don't miss the Discovery Centre just outside Woody Point and the town of Woody Point itself.
