Rent a car or not in Toronto

We will be visiting Toronto for 7 days (7/4-7/10). We are flying in/out of Pearson Int'l, and staying at Sheraton Ctr Toronto (downtown 123 Queen St.). Plan to take a day trip to NF and another to African Safari.

Option 1: Rent a car the whole trip. Parking at Sheraton is $32/day.
Option 2: Rent the car just for two days for the side trips.

I am leaning toward Option 2. While in Toronto, we will be mostly doing things in downtown, it seems like Metro should suffice.

What are your opinions? If you agree with me (pick option 2), are you aware of an Enterprise like car rental company that can drop off our car at the hotel?

Thanks for the help.

I would definitely not rent a car for the whole time. At $32/day parking, you'll be paying over $65/day to rent a car that's parked the whole time.

For Niagara Falls, you can do a day trip by bus. There are several from Toronto to NF every day. While in NF, you can get a day pass for the People Mover bus that will take you up and down the Niagara Parkway to the different attractions - you'll have unlimited access on the People Mover all day.

I'm not sure about the African Safari, but there may be something available for that also. If I find something I'll post it here for your consideration. If not, this would be the only day you would need a car, so if you planned it for the first or last day of the trip, you could use it in conjunction with the airport transportation.

The TTC (that's what Torontonians call the metro as was explained to me last year) is very easy to use. Look into the day pass - I think they will be less expensive than the weekly pass since you aren't traveling Monday thru Sunday.

If you need transportation during your Toronto visit, take cabs, it would be cheaper then your car rental plus daily parking. The cabs are plentiful and we never paid more then $8.00 for any trip.

TTC is cheaper than taxis (and in a lot of areas actually faster).

If you will be mainly downtown, the TTC is definitely the way to go (plus I have always found the streecars fun). Just rent a car for the day trips.

Enterprise has several locations in downtown Toronto.

How many are you? TTC may be cheaper than a cab if there are two of you but if there are three or four, maybe not.

Look here for TTC prices and day passes:
