Niagra falls
Thanks so much Brian for your info. It is very helpful. I do want to take Maid of the Mist, but was just curious as to whether or not getting soaked in October as far north as Niagra would be too cold. No, I'm not from the tropics, just good old New York. Is the foliage any good around Niagra? Any preference amongst the hotels you mentioned? Thanks again!

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl-I went to college in Lewiston,Ny 7 miles from the falls. October is a beautiful month,we did the Maid of the Mist for a reunion on Columbus Day weekend,no it was not cold,it is fun and amazing. During my college years I always felt the cold was worst in Northern NJ,as it is a wet cold and never felt as cold until I came home. Have fun-Do the cave of the winds, thats interesting too! If you can rent the old movie Niagara-it has great scenes of the falls.

You won't get soaked if you're covered up. The raincoats provided do a really nice job, so long as you tuck everything in (your watch and camera, for example). It's a good idea to pull the drawstring of the hood leaving only a small viewing area, otherwise, your hair will get soaked (otherwise, the hood blows right off in the wind). Weather in October is completely unpredictable. Could be chilly or even frosty, could be in the 70's or even 80's. Last October, over our seven day visit, we experienced a combination of the two - wool one day, tank tops and shorts the next. You just never know.

We were just at Niagara Falls last week. Went to the Cave of the Winds,(or Journey Behind the Falls, next to the Canadian falls, you can't miss it), Maid of the Mist (10 minute walk from there). Wore plastic covers, got soaking wet each time, but dried out quickly. Was worth it.
