It's our tenth anniversary. We don't want to leave our kids over 4 days. <BR> <BR>We are not serious hikers but enjoy nature tremendously. Scenic vistas are what we enjoy, majestic views stir the soul of this couple. <BR> <BR>Luxury accomodations are a must. Suggestions warmely welcomed.

In Banff with two children there are many nice hotels. The Banff Springs is nice (ask for the newer wing). The old rooms are a little small. You need not walk far to get some great views. Take the gondola up Sulphur Mtn and don't miss the hot pool. The Chateau Lake Louise is a luxorious hotel overlooking the lake and the glacier. The sunrise over the glacier and lake in not to be missed. Four days is the perfect amount of time to spend in the Banff area, you will be able to see everything with out being rushed. Moraine Lake, next to Lake Louise is even more scenic, with a variety of short hikes and canoe rentals available. <BR>The Bow River Highway loop is a nice drive that will take you to a variety of scenic overlooks and hiking spots. <BR> If you want to be located in a busier town area, the Banff Springs hotel is the place to stay. The highway makes everything just a short drive away.

For a great hike and luxury try the cabins at Moraine Lake (near Lake Louise). Situated right on the edge of the Moraine Lake and at the bottom of a trail going up Sentinal Pass (the highest maintained trail in the Rockies). Also the Post Hotel in Lake Louise is a Relais and Chateaux and can't be beat for luxury. The cabin accomodations (vs hotel -cabin would be better for family) here are something to consider (right on small creek) and food devine.

I agree with the above posters, entirely. Moraine Lake from the parking lot end is a beautiful sight to behold. <BR>Lake Louise is also gorgeous. It is best viwed in the morning fairly early when the light is right and the mobs have not reached full capacity. <BR>Also, drive over Kicking Horse Pass for a look at Takkakaw Falls in Yoho National Park. <BR>I know you said you are not hikers, but walk along the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail far enough to get a peek at a formation called the Mitre. <BR>Johnson Canyon located between Lake Louise and Banff is a short walk and very scenic. <BR>

Stayed in Banff for 5 nights in April - the Banff Park Lodge is reasonable but hardly exciting, as I see that some of the other suggestions are probably in the "luxury" price range - but you should probably spoil yourselves anyway!! In Banff, the Sulphur Springs, Minnewanka Lake, nearby Johnson Canyon and Tunnel Mountain Drive above Bow Falls were good. Near Lake Louise, maybe extend your trip at least part of the way up the Icefileds Parkway to Peyto Lake, Bow Lake and ther amazing mountainscapes there. Yoho and Emerald Lake also pretty nice. <BR> <BR>You don't say when you are going, note that Moraine Lake road is only open 1 June to 30 Sept. <BR> <BR>
