If you are centred in Lunenberg, then Halifax itself would count as a day trip (and a darn fine one too....) You might also try Terrence Bay, a much more authenitcally untouched small fishing village than Peggy's Cove, though one cannot denty the latter's beauty. It is the gravesite of one of Canada's most interting ship wrecks and the place where George Grant, historian and philosopher lived and died.<BR>

Visit Mahone Bay, it's a beautiful town about 1/2 hr from Lunenberg with a lot of interesting arts and crafts. Take a trip from Halifax towards Liverpool along the Lighthouse Route, the scenery is beautiful.<BR>

Linda, head up to the Kejimikujik Adjunt and take the 5km walk out to the beach. Pick up a lunch before you go and eat it while you watch the sea lions sun on the rocks. It is a great way to spend the day.

So we returned from our week in NS - we stayed in Halifax for 3 nights, Lunenberg for 4. Day tripped to Mahone Bay, Chester, and had an adventure - from Chester we took the ferry (1 hour each way- $5 Canadian round trip - to Big Tancook Island, so sparesly polulated that the motor vehicles don't have license plates! Had a chowder lunch and took a walk. (Some people bring their bikes.) We also heard a great deal of music, as we were in town during the Lunenberg Folk Harbor Music Festival. Took small drives to Blue Rocks, Bachman's Beach...Thanks everyone for the input.

I agree with the recommendation on the Kejimikujik Adjunt. It is part of the National Park system and the trail is wide and easy to walk. Very worth it too as you are rewarded with remote and scenic beach with lots of Harbor Seals to watch playing on rocks out in the water.<BR><BR>Mahone Bay is also lovely with galleries and good lunch spot, Mimi's.<BR><BR>We did a sail from Lunenberg wharf area and that was fun too.<BR><BR>If you like beaches, try Crescent Beach. Very nice. <BR><BR>Lots of good dining in Halifax.

Don't take the whale watch tour from Lunenberg - not professional, boat is small, and the ride is expensive ($45 per person).<BR><BR>Do recommend the Old Fish Factory restaurant - good food & good service.

If you are looking for a wonder and memorable day, go down to the Oak island Reosrt and Spa (about 20 minutes from Lunenburg on Route 3). Their Marina offers an exceptional island picnic package. Spend the day on an island where you can swim, snorkle and hike and enjoy a great picnic. They also have kayaks, bike rentals, wet suits, fishing and shrak fishing tours. And to finish it all, treat yourself to a spa treatment. Great Vacation day!
