My husband and I, and potentially my 16 year old son, would like to visit Nova Scotia for the first time this summer. If you only had 4-5 days, how would you spend it? PIE? Cabot Trail? Other region? What sights would you make sure you see, what hotels/inns would you stay at (one place or multiple), what restaurants are "not-to-be-missed's"? Thanks all.

Where does the 4-5 days start?<BR><BR>I ask because we found NS to be bigger than we expected, and if you're starting fron Yarmouth, that's very little time.<BR><BR>If it were me, I'd fly into Halifax and spend the entire time in Cape Breton.

Also - further away (depending where you are coming from) but very interesting to see,<BR><BR>Hopewell Rocks, Bay of Fundy. At high and low tide (meaning a day there).

My favorite area of NS is the Cabot Trail, but I agree with elberko that 4-5 days may not allow you enough time to travel to/from and appreciate the entire area.<BR><BR>In addition to elberko's good idea, consider a loop, taking in Wolfville - a great university town with an active theatre, and some lovely inns, then heading to the city of Halifax and back through the scenic and historic seaside communities of Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg.<BR><BR>Be sure and send for the excellent NS Doer's and Dreamer's Guide which gives extensive information on these areas, as well as a very descriptive listing of accommodations. There is even a toll-free # that allows you to book most lodging with a single phone call.

If your son likes the beach, head to PEI! The busker festival happens in Halifax in late July early August so lots to see and do. Also from Halifax as a central point, you can do day trips out to Peggys' Cove, surfing at Lawrencetown Beach, depends on what you want to accomplish. The Cabot Trail is awesome as well as Louisbourg. You can do whale watching around several points on the trail, golfing is great too.

We will be starting our trip by taking the Cat from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth. How long would it take (or how long would be ideal) to go from Yarmouth, through Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg up to and around the Cabot Trail? Does anyone know of a Scottish looking resort in Inginish (sp?)? Someone mentioned it to me at one time. Is it worth staying at?

The total driving time if you did it directly would be 10-12 hours. The reasonable drive would be from Yarmouth to Halifax (4 hours direct on highway). I believe the CAT arrives either very early or late in the evening (can't remember). If you are planning on Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove go for a full day.<BR><BR>It will be another full day to Cape Breton. About a four hour direct drive from Halifax. Then you can either head directly for Ingonish the first night (Keltic Lodge is awesome) or stay in Baddeck. Then the next day do the trail.

I think you may be thinking of Keltic Lodge. Although the rooms are nothing very special the location is very dramatic; it sits on a peninsula all its own. Food is also quite good.
