What will the weather be like in Sydney in April?

We will be arriving in Sydney on April 28, 1998. Will it be warm, or should we plan on sweaters and wools? We will be leaving Sydney on May 4th and heading to Christchurch and Queensland in New Zealand. What will the weather be like there? We just don't know what to pack because we keep getting conflicting information. We don't want to pack to heavy but don't want to be too warm or too cold, etc... Any adivise?

Hi Andrea, April in Sydney is mid autumn (fall), the weather there should be relatively mild. The best clothing for travel is the same all over, dress in layers, and just make sure you have a very warm jacket for any cold evenings. Dress is very casual and unless you intend going to 5 star hotels to eat, leave all you good gear at home. You will find Christchurch in NZ colder, but the same applies, one sweater and a warm jacket is all you need and NZ has such good wool products if you need another it is a great excuse to buy a new one. You mention Queensland. If you mean Queenstown in NZ then it is further south and will be fairly cool. If you meant Queensland in Oz then that is further north and you will need to pack your shorts. You can find out about weather if you try the web site www.travel.com.au as it has links to give you all that info. hope that helps. Peg.

Hi Peg, Thanks so much for your speedy responce. The week in Sydney will be on business so we do have some fancy things planned. We are staying at the Regent and will be having some planned dinners there and one night at the Opera House. Other than that we will be pretty casual. I meant Queenstown in NZ (sorry). What do you mean by fairly cool? Should I keep my lining in my trench coat? By the way, this is what we have planned in Sydney, 1. We will take a 1/2 day city tour. 2. We are taking a Blue Mountains 4-Wheel drive tour. 3. Avisit to Koala Park, then the rest of the day at the Tobruk Sheep Station. 4. A Dinner Cruise on Sydney Harbour. How does all of this sound to you? Any suggestions for our free time?

Hi Andrea, What a lovely time you are going to have When we go on holidays to Sydney we just love walking around the Rocks, going to Circular Quay and catching the ferry to Toronga park Zoo and Manly. Going to Darling Harbour by monorail. we love to explore the Power House Museum it is spectacular and every thing is superbly displayed and the emphasis is on hands on interaction. We always buy a Sydney Travel pass that lets us use buses, ferries and trains without worrying about how much each fare is.We then just explore by hopping on and off transport and never knowing where we will end up. In fact this is the way we explore most cities when we travel overseas. It is one way to meet the locals and we always find someone will help us if we get hoplessly lost.Regarding weather in Queenstown, it is years since i have been there, but I would think the weather would be similar to Tasmania, so you need to have a waterproof jacket or umbrella (just in case) and layered clothing rather than anything that is too bulky. Have a great time. Peg.

Remember the Regent is a 5 star hotel, catering mostly for o/s tiurists. Take something dressy if eating there and for the Opera house. The weather has been unbelievably hot this year, so layers are best. Blue Mts can be chilly and damp in April, and Queenstown will popssibly be cold and more than likely snowing at the end of April, it is a huge ski town.
