Tasmania-11 nights and more questions
Thanks Fodorites for replies/suggestions to my previous questions.
I have revised plans to now spend 11 nights in Tasmania, originally planned to fly into Hobart and out of Launceston and now having time to tour some of the east coast --but the more I plan the route the more it seems better to arrive and leave from Hobart.
The plan: 2 nights in Hobart, 1 night in Port Arthur (is it worth the stay or should this just be a day trip from Hobart??) 1 night Swansea (or ??) 2 nights in Launceston (touring around wine area) 2 nights Cradle Mt, 1 night Strahan,....then it seems better to head south then to backtrack to Launceston....1 night Lake St Clair and 1 night Hobart. Is this too rushed? (Option 2 would be to travel from Swansea to Cradle Mt, then Strahan then back to Launceston). Or travel the west coast first and do a loop to the east coast from Launceston. Suggestions welcomed.

There are not a lot of hotels in Port Arthur. I stayed in one that was wretched when I was there in 2010 that I would not recommend. I would recommend you just do Port Arthur as a day trip, but it will be a long day.
I went to the West Coast in 2012, so I do not know some of your other destinations. I did not do Cradle Mountain--just the railroad and boat tour from Queenstown/Strahan. Highly recommend the mine tour in Queenstown.
MONA in Hobart is excellent and very unusual.

11 nights will give you a great taste. Let's face it there is never enough time on any trip. As said, previously we have spent 11 weeks and still not seen all we want.
Most tours to Tas are only about 5 days, so you will see plenty.
When you stay at Launceston, go to low head and do the penguin tour. You will get within a metre or so of them.

Port Arthur is about that far, and remember it is an easy drive. Hobart is a VERY small city and you can go in one side and out the other in about 30 minutes!
From Launceston to Cradle go through Chudleigh or do it when you are winerying. The Honey shop has 55+ types of honey and some fantastic nougat and ice cream along with soaps etc.
When at Cradle, take the shuttle bus. It is free and will allow you to look at the scenery. We spent Christmas day there in 2012. Brilliant! Covered about 16km. The boardwalk is great and very clever. It covers the power and water supplies in the park as they could not dig trenches.
The east Coast is lovely but much like any other coastal place, with the exception of Freycinet and Maria (pronounced Mariah - like the wind) Both are well worth a visit. The fossil cliffs and the painted cliffs on Maria are very unique.
The windmill at Oatlands is worth doing an the town itself has the most buildings pre 1830(?) in Australia.
