Port Douglas to Cairns driving time

All,

Per current itinerary we have planned to drive from Port Douglas to Cairns airport to catch a morning flight to Brisbane and then connect to an international flight out of Brisbane at 2 pm.

Would this be a bit tricky to accomplish? What is a comfortable driving time from Port Douglas to Cairns Airport? I have assumed both domestic and international flights are out of the same airport in Brisbane, Is this correct?

Please help!

What time is your flight out of Cairns ? I think the drive from PD to Cairns airport should be slightly less than an hour.

In Brissie, there are two terminals, domestic and international, connected by train, and probably shuttle as well. The trains only run every 30 mins or so. There is likely an airport website you could look at for transit times.

Should be doable, as long as the Cairns flight is early enough.

sartoric, we did the opposite trip to you, and it was very easy to connect between the two terminals at Brisbane as there is a shuttle bus. Also there are very helpful volunteers who will point you in the right direction. [what a wonderful and welcome service this was for people just off a 9 hour flight!]

I would allow a good hour from PD to Cairns [although you are arriving at the right side of town for the airport, you have to return your car to the hire place] - the hire parking is right next to the departure building at cairns, max 5 mins walk, and check in there is very easy. so working backwards, if your international flight leaves Brisbane at 2pm, you'll want to be there by noon, which means at the latest a flight out of Cairns at 10 am, [9.30 for safety] so you would need to arrive there at 9am, which has you leaving PD at 8am ish.

should be just about doable, though I might be a bit twitchy about making the 2pm flight if there's a delay.

I would allow an hour and a half to be safe for the drive-it was about 50 minutes when we did it last fall but then ran into road repairs about 4 miles out of PD which held us up due to one land traffic?

Do yourselves a favor and have dinner at the TIN SHED in PD-reasonable,great food and right on the river. You go in and sign the guest book and then wait to be seated. The seafood is so tasty!

yes, we liked the Tin shed too. The other place that we really liked was the surf life saving club at the end of the beach - very good and good value, but you must book for the evenings. [you have to sign in like at the Tin shed but that's no problem]

if you venture over to Mossman gorge [great walks through the tropical forest, and DO take the bus!] then try to have lunch at Mojo's - some of the best food we've had anywhere, not just in OZ.

The seafood noodle dish was incredible. if you're going in the evening, do book.
