Perth, GBR, suggestions
We are hoping to travel to Aus. the first 3 weeks of July this year. The first week will be in Perth for a wedding. Worried about the weather that time of year...have heard differing reports re:Gale force winds etc. Any information, suggestions would be appreciated. After Perth we would like to move on to GBR area... Cairns vs. Pt. Douglas? Most in this forum seem to perfer the latter...We want to book/pay for everything in $Can. at home so we are looking at modules that include daytrips to the outter reef, etc. Any opinions regarding Raddison Reef vs. Raddison Treetops resorts in P.D.? Which has a better, more convienent location (access to beach, town etc.)? Also would like some information re:Cape Tribulation as we would like to do a day trip and possibly an overnight into the region...Any suggestions?

We travelled to aus in Jan 98 and had a great time in Port Douglas. The town was wonderful very laid back not touristy not over the top etc. We had a few lazy days before starting our main holiday in aus. We chose portD. as cairns seemed more commercial etc. From here we travelled on the quick silver to the reef which was a great day( my first experience at scuba diving since I have gone on to qualify so when we go again next month I can do more!!) Also went to the rain forest which was really different. Treetops and Radisson
are situated very close together and have a shuttle service running between them anyway. We stayed a radisson which was lovely but ate more often at the treetops. I would try treetops next time we are in that area! ( we are going to Hamilton this time instead)As for perth we went but it was feb time. Check out web sites for weather info and don't believe what is always said! Don't miss Rotnest if you have the chance to go it is so lovely. If you want lots of info search the web. you can book all trips etc very easily once you are there and seem to get a better deal. you will also know if you feel upto the trip on that day too ( it depends on jetlag etc. you may book and then not feel like it! There is a very good travel mall site which i will find and mail on to you. Anyway sorry to go on (It is such a wonderful country!!) If you want to know anything feel free to mail me!!.

lorraine

The weather in Perth in July is of course mid winter. However, midwinter by Perth standards is no big deal. Sure, it could rain all the time, alternatively it could be lovely. Don't worry about gales etc - if we do have a storm,it's not like a hurricane or anything bad. People talk so much rubbish. It is not cold here, and it generally doesn't rain for longer than a couple of days at a stretch.
