2016 Rugby internationals - anyone watching?
Our Saturday morning has started with Wales v NZ and a surprise first try for Wales - but anything they can do, NZ can do better. Looks like it could be a long 80 minutes for the men in red.

Really, no-one?
perhaps when you all wake up then!
depending on your perspective, 1 quite interesting match and another great one, with a superb result for one side or the other. No spoilers if you've not yet seen it, but we were thrilled by one of the tries as the local lad went over the line.
wonder how Ireland will do v SA?

you're welcome anyway, trip planner.
perhaps we can convert you to the 15 man [or woman] game.
We're very lucky [if you're a sports fan] in that we get most significant sporting events broadcast to us somewhere though we have to pay to watch some of it.
However the football is still free and there's a European Cup thread over on the European board if you'd like to join in there:

sorry, Margo - we were a bit shocked too. didn't the Irish do well with only 14 men?
You should have heard the cheer [well, I'm surprised you didn't!] when Jack Nowell went over at the end of the match - he played a season for our club a few years ago as we never cease to remind people.
We also had Ma'a Nonu's brother Pale playing for us last season; sadly he isn't quite as good as Ma'a.
We fully expect Australia to bounce back next week.

I hardly ever come to this forum anymore. The Wales v NZ game was a great game. One of my employees is from Wales, she supports NZ unless they are playing the Welsh. I said to her today at work, I bet you were jumping up and down at half-time. She said she was but had the feeling that NZ would come back hard in the second half.
Australia getting beaten by England was a bit of a shock. They will come out fighting next time.
and South Africa losing was totally unexpected, especially playing with only 14 men.

Saw Eddie's smile when you beat us in Brisbane. Is that what you're talking about annhig?>>
I thought that must have hurt, northie. I was watching for his reaction too - he's obviously embraced his new team wholeheartedly, just as one might expect, though it must be odd coaching a team to beat your own nation.
nelsonian - I think that we're fully expecting the Aussies to be fired up for the next match but that can work against a team of course if they go in hell for leather and concede a lot of penalties - we can but hope!
As for the Irish, doesn't it sometimes work like that? a sending off makes the aggrieved team play even better. I don't mean to say that you didn't deserve a car, it was definitely reckless and deserved a yellow but red was rather harsh we thought. given they had someone else in the bin as well in the first half, it was a stellar effort.
The only match that wasn't a surprise [apart from the start] was Wales v NZ - once NZ got into their stride, it was normal service resumed. The Welsh will have to up their game considerably to beat them next time.

The All Blacks v Wales game last night, was fantastic. The All Blacks did not have much possession in the first half. Had a good patch of play for about 20 minutes or so which gave them enough points to stay ahead, when Wales started to comeback about 10 minutes before the end.

I agree that was a good match, Nelsonian, and those 20 minutes were indeed fantastic for the All Blacks, but it won't surprise you to read that I was talking about the OTHER match down under, the little matter of Australia v England. It as exhausting just watching it. how England soaked up all the possession and territory that Australia had without conceding more than one try I'll never know but somehow they did, and won a series v Australia for the first time.
If you asked Eddie Jones to walk on water, I reckon he could do it.

margo - listening to the interviews this morning, the players are all talking about his "work ethic" and the toughness of the training regimes. the subs didn't come on until about 70 minutes into the game which says something for the overall fitness of the team.
However, it can't be all down to Eddie - the coaches of the teams that these players are from deserve a lot of praise too. it can't be a co-incidence that the vast majority of the players come from the top few sides in England which have done so well in Europe this year.
Also, I think that Stuart Lancaster did a lot but he was undermined by his back-room staff [eg in the notorious choice of Sam Burgess] and probably wasn't strong enough with the players either. Who wants to go back into a changing room to get a bollocking from Eddie Jones?

Your lot has Mark Ella, as well.
Probably easier to put fear into lads who just shamed themselves by woeful play! Knocked out of their own World Cup! I hope Michael Cheika is doing that right now!
Interesting that the only news we heard from the English camp was Eddie Jones. All team members gagged??
Sam Burgess was an Australian ploy all along!

i think that was just biased editing, margo. We heard from 5 or 6 members of the team - the captain, obviously, the MotM and ex-captain, Farrell, Haskins, Otoje, - probably a few others I've forgotten, all that brought to us by your wonderful ABC. OTOH all we got of YOUR lot was a very chastened Steven Moore. Perhaps they had all been gagged - or had the hairdryer treatment!
I'd believe you about Sam only I think it was a home grown disaster - foist upon Lancaster by Andy Farrell and others because it had worked so well with Jason Robinson. Who of course was a much better player playing in a position where I suspect that it is easier to transfer skills. After all, his job was essentially to catch the ball and run with it; scrummaging, mauling, and rucking are all much more technical and harder to learn.
Any predictions for next week?
I wish him all the best in Rugby league - frankly he should never have left it!
