Would you do Hikone for a 3 day visit to Kyoto?
We are leaving for our first visit to Japan in 3 days time.
We have factored in 3 full days in Kyoto- arriving from Tokyo on Jan 31 and leaving Feb 3.
Do you recommend doing a day trip to Hikone from Kyoto or are there enough to interest us in Kyoto for 3 days?
Appreciate your opinion.

if the Hikone castle/garden are covered by fresh snow, i would be tempted to go there. and, at this point the Japan Meteorological Agency predicts snowy days for the end of January in Hikone. http://www.jma.go.jp/en/week/334.html

it's relatively snowy place as is shown by the pic of Hikone Sightseeing Association's japanese homepage http://www.hikoneshi.com/

Eschaton:
three days in Kyoto, with perhaps a 40-minute bus trip to the Miho Musem in the countryside, would keep you busy and constantly in awe at the sights. Here are a few pics to consider:

I looked up the museum. It will be closed until 3-11-11. It opens for the spring from March 12th through June 5th and then the summer session is from July 9th through August 14th. It is too bad I will be in Japan only in June because I think I would have liked to see this museum.
