Unreasonable request for Bangkok Oriental?

Hi all,

I am a 30-year old guy who emerged from a brink of a bankruptcy 7 years ago (and a divorce) and am finally taking a vacation - off to Thailand and Cambodia for two weeks - quite a break after my 6 days a week, 11 hours a day schedule.

I have been divorced and single for three years and frankly, would like to 'meet' local 'ladies of the night' in BKK. I'm not a perennial sex tourist; just a single guy who wants some company. My question: I will be staying at BKK Oriental and, knowing that it's such a posh hotel, will they allow me to bring back a 'guest' or politely show her the door?

Don't want to reenact a "Pretty Woman" scenario.

Thank you for your responses.

I should think you are asking for trouble here- the people at the Oriental and for that matter most 5 star properties will be able to spot these girls in a heartbeat. You might be embarassed as the hotel might object to this sort of thing.

UHM.... if you are actually serious and this isn't a joke I am going to have to tell you that the answer would be - NO.
The Oriental doesn't even allow anyone into the lobby wearing shorts and sandals. In addition as you exit the elevator on each floor your butler meets you and welcomes you back - they notice and would report if you brought someone back to the hotel for the evening that was not an "official" guest of the hotel. In fact once we got off on the wrong floor at the Oriental and the butler on THAT floor knew we were on the wrong floor and she knew which floor we were staying on!
Sorry, you may want to try another hotel but, well - have fun! You may want to try the Chedi in Phuket though!
If this is a joke it's a pretty good one!! Ha!!

Thanks, guys.

I was actually quite serious.

How would they know she is a lady of the night? I guess I am asking a pretty rhetorical question.

BTW Lonestar, how did you manage to emerge from the brink of bankruptcy at 23? I thought we were all pretty much bankrupt at 23 .
You really are cracking me up though!

It was a small business I got from my dad. Straight out school, I had little idea what 'real' business was like (and that's putting it charitably). Almost ran it into the ground, but dad softened up and took pity on me and bailed me out. I would like to think I wisened up.

I am glad I am cracking you up! What's funny though; my bankruptcy or the ladies of the night?

So, I guess nobody here saw any gentlemen shlepping around with their local 'friends'?

From one point of view, I can understand the hotel policy. From another, you'd think you'd be able to sneak in a 'companion' when you're paying $350/night...

I have stayed at the Oriental many times and have had no difficulty having guests -- however, they were not"ladies of the night" and none ever spent the night.

However, the Oriental is very security conscious -- even more so since 911 and they DO know their guests.

I stayed there in June and saw many "ladies" coming and going in the lobby with their American businessmen. What I couldn't tell you, however, was whether they were successful in getting to the rooms upstairs.

Lonestar- I guess you have not been around the block enough times- you can spot these women a mile away most of the time. Don't risk it- they know proper ladies from ladies of the night.

Thank you for your responses.

It's my first time traveling to Asia and I haven't been around the block. I won't risk it. Guess I'll spend my time in solitude.

Rupert Murdoch is married to a Chinese girl who is 35 years his junior. But I guess I am being naive - they will tell a lady from the night from a media baron's wife.

To elaborate on what I said in the previous post; I meant if, for example, Murdoch shows up with his young Chinese wife at the hotel, they wouldn't confuse her with a bargirl. But it was naive of me to say that.

A typical Texan traveling to Asia for the first time, what can I say.

Lets be clear - if a celeb shows up with any kind of lady the hotel will not say a word. You can still have "fun" you might just have to bunk into a one star hotel for the night!

I'm sure there are upscale services that provide girls who will look and dress entirely appropriate for the Oriental. Just like in any city of the world. You just have to pay more...

ls; from your post, it seems that the main reason for your visit to bkk is to engage in recreational activities with ladies of the night. that said, you might be better served staying at nana hotel. i hear that its a fun place, even in the parking lot after midnite.

maybe orgy7 might have better suggestions. .

I too have seen many a business men with the company of women (and young thai men ) in some of the swanky 5* river hotels. The people accompanying them have always been very well dressed and this maybe what is required. I suspect it goes on every hotel in the world WITHOUT EXCEPTION! I did see a chap in his 20s once get told he couldn't bring his thai women into the royal orchid sheraton - but this women did look like a bar girl, 5 minutes later I saw 2 well to do men in their 60s wandering through the lobby with 2 young glamourous thai women, without being bothered by the staff at all. I would suggest that you make a discreet enquiry with the bellboy, if anyone knows how to smuggle a guest in, I guess they will.

I thank everyone for your responses: some great feedback.

Rkkwan and Walter_WallTotti,

I think you're right and I will take the bellboy advice.

Kuranosuke,
I am not going to BKK for the women. Wat Pho, Grand Palace, Jim Thompson's, Dusit Grounds, are far more interesting than the bars. But the ladies of the night are icing on the cake.
Nana Hotel seems to be in the Sukhumvit (sp.?) area, which I hear is pretty sleazy. Not my cup of tea.

Walter_WallTotti,

Which 5-star hotels on the River if you don't mind my asking? I still have a chance to switch to Shangri-La and Peninsula which are apparently on the river.

Certainly seen it going on in the Shangri La and Sheraton. I was leaving the Peninsula one morning at 6am for the airport and in the space of 10 mins i saw 2 women leave who definately didn't look like employees.

I can't say this is an area of expertese for me. Im judging people on their looks which is dangerous
