The Similans (Cambridge) menu recco
We are taking our daughter to this restaurant tomorrow evening. Gpanda recommended a dish -- perhaps a duck dish -- awhile back but I can't find the reccomendation.
Can Andy or anyone else recommend any great dishes they had there at the Boston GTG dinner? I didn't do such a teriffic job ordering at the Similans the first time we went in September. The woman who waited on us didn't seem to want to talk about the food either. Anyway, we'd like to go back and try again.
It just occurred to me that you all probably know the very best dishes on the menu. If anything comes to mind, please advise. It will make a special dinner all the more memorable.
Thanks.

Wow, recommendations all the way from Thailand! Thanks, Bob, and do continue to enjoy the real thing while we settle for a few hours in a Thai restaurant. It was 37 degrees F here in Boston when I went out this morning...

Mary-just ate dinner there. The duck is actually called "Brown Sugar Duck". This is named after the sister restaurant and not an ingredient. Dinner was superb. No duck, but we did try Jade noodle, a shrimp dish with spinach noodles. Pretty good.

Thanks for the help, everyone!
We had a lovely time sitting at the table by the fish tank. I was tempted to leave a discreet, improvised "Reserved for Fodor's" sign on the table as we departed.
The server was better than the person who waited on us first time, but still not very communicative so we whipped out your recommendations which I had printed out and tucked in my purse. Glad to have them.
I ordered "Bob's" chili shrimp which had just the right amount of spiciness. Yum.
Friends from NYC at a nearby table also weren't getting reccomendations from the staff so you helped them out as well. They decided to have "Andy/Beth/Karen's" yellow curry chicken. They pronounced it a great success.
My husband had some "do-it-yourself" basil dish with chicken as the main ingredient (?) My daughter had chicken almondine served in half a fresh pineapple. She found the presentation beautiful and the dish good. She wants to try something else next time and I have already promised the staff that we'll be back for Brown Sugar duck. I now recall TerryR saying that she liked that dish as well... Also still have to try the ribs since they are so highly recommended.
We liked our appetizers best of all -- multiple orders of the fresh vegetarian spring rolls and the crab rangoon. My daughter and I are both big fans of the limonade and my husband enjoyed some Thai beer. We were disappointed to learn that mango/sticky rice is out of season so we contented ourselves with coffee with brown sugar lollipops.

It's in Cambridge, MA (our fair city). It's located on First Street, next to Helmond, a very good Afghan restaurant, down the block from the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall. The best Thai food in the Boston area.
