Teak Wood from Bali & Lombok

I hear that there are really nice teak wood furnitures for sale in Bali and Lombok at bargain prices. Would like to get my hands on some for my new home. Does anyone have any leads to share/recommend?

I can't offer particular tips or leads, but can confirm that there are numerous furniture shops in Bali with fabulous teak wood furniture. We stayed in Nusa Dua and drove on a couple of trips (to Ubud, Kuta, and a white water rafting trip), and passed by (and stopped in) numerous shops by the side of the road. You definately won't miss them - they're all over the place. Standard tourist brochures available at the airport and in hotels will also have ads from some more upscale stores. The only issue is the shipping cost to get them home - you may want to price teak furniture while you're home, and then compare the cost of purchasing and shipping from Bali.

Great bargains are avaiable in Bali and Java, but not Lombok. If you're looking at buying teak wood furniture, be careful and insist that the wood be moisture metered, otherwise the wood may crack. Older pieces and pieces made of recycled teak are your best bets for high quality, in general. If you have any specific questions about buying teak wood furniture you can send me a personal message. (I'm a dealer but want to respect the non-commercial aspects of this site)

We purchased several pieces of furniture while on our honeymoon in Bali two years ago. We went to a store called CV Menara in Denpasar. It was one of several that the concierge at the Four Seasons suggested. We were able to get very good prices on some beautiful pieces. <BR><BR>I don't recall the name of the steet they are located on. However, they are located on one of the major roadways and it is a well known and reputable store.<BR><BR>If shipping to the U.S., you'll need to pay the customs and duty. I don't recall if we paid this at the time of purchase or when we picked it up from the warehouse.<BR><BR>

When we had teak furniture shipped to the U.S., we paid no duty on it because it was hand-made and hand-carved. The shop arranged all shipping, including the crating. The furniture arrived in about six weeks. We had to pay a document fee for the agent at port of entry. The agent then took care of the U.S. shipping, and we picked it up at their warehouse in a nearby city. We cleared the customs documents at the U.S. Customs office, loaded the furniture into our minivan, and drove it home. Piece of cake.

Hello Ling,

Yes, they have nice teak furniture for sale in Bali. But actually Bali is not the original place to get those kind of stuff. Java or central Java is the place.

Just email me if you need further help

Most of the shops in Jakarta have their warehouses in Solo area, where you will get a much wider choice, but mostly antique (?) items. Do you reside in Asia?

Fenno, you will not only find antique furniture in Solo but various. What I heard and thought is people buy furniture from Java and sell them in Bali.

Yes Yustina, I think its correct that the Balinese shops purchase from Java. I love it in Indonesia when you see signs up &quot;Antiques Made to Order&quot;.

Easy and cheap promotion way.

My tips before you buy furniture (everywhere) is (1st) to make sure that they use dry enough timber otherwise it will easily crack. The heat in the conatiner and temperature difference from the origin country and destination country could speed up the cracking process.

Normally we can claim this issue to the seller but it costs money, time and energy...so be carefull
(2nd) if it for outdoor try to buy furniture with real brass

I recently bought some pieces at a terrific price in LA. I also am looking for more pieces, but don't plan a trip to Java in the near future. Can anyone recommend any companies on the Internet which are reputable? Kim
