South Korea
Does anyone have suggestions of what to do in Seoul Korea. We have a layover for 1.5 days and would like to make the most of it. Is there anything like the "hop on/hop off" bus? Also any suggestions for a hotel? Thanx Jennifer

I haven't been there for nearly 4-5 years, but I always enjoy taking a stroll through Insa-dong. It's a traditional neighbourhood with galleries and teahouses. (Loved the citron tea and date tea.) Also strongly recommend the palace tour.
I don't know about hop on/off bus, but subway systems are easy to use.
Hard to recommend hotels, not knowing your budget. I stay at Hilton near Seoul station or Westin Chosun (very convenient) because I go there for business.

Insadong is very nice to wander around. Also the areas of Sinchon, near the universities, are really buzzing, specially at nightime - lots of bright lights!
However, I thought the most worthwhile thing to see in Seoul was actually the War Memorial Museum.

The USO does a great tour of the DMZ. If you go, try to take a sandwich with you as the place they take you ahs mediocre Korean food.
If you like spicy food, try soon-doo-boo chee-gae. It is a spicy tofu soup in a rich broth.

With the efficient subway system, a hop-on/off bus isn't really necessary here. I've live here in Seoul and would reccomend visiting Insadong, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and then perhaps one of the markets. The university areas as mentioned above in Sinchon and Ewha areas are also fun for shopping. The DMZ tour will take up most of your day, so I think for your short visit it's not the bext choice.
Although I haven't used this site for Korea, Asiarooms.com provides accurate descriptions and good service for hotels. If you are traveling light, you could experience a "jimjilbang" for one night. It is a public bath/sauna which has sleeping rooms for overnighters.
Feel free to give me an email if you haven't already come this way and I can give you some detailed instructions. (mariainkorea (at) gmail.com)

the hop on hop off bus information

if you have not much time and want to just sweep through the city, this might be a good alternative.
