Planning Trip to KL using FF Miles Please help with sidetrip ideas
My husband and I are planning a trip to Kuala Lumpur to visit his grown son and wife in April (can be earlier or later) of 2003. We will be using Delta Skymiles points, leaving from Atlanta. We have done this twice before, using Singapore Airlines as the partner, flying ATL-LAX, LAX-Seoul, Seoul to Singapore, and Singapore to KL. One trip routed us to Taipei instead of Seoul. While there, we have taken short sidetrips to Langkawi, Bangkok, and Phuket.

We are considering a stop in Hong Kong for 3 days before going on to KL. We only have a total of 2 weeks, including travel time, so my question is: does 3 days as a before or after make good sense and is HK the best choice to see a new city in a short visit?

Also, is Singapore Airlines our best choice as a Delta partner? We have enough FF miles to fly business or first class(first would use every mile we have!) A RT business ticket uses 95,000 miles, a first class uses 135,000 miles--is it worth the difference?

I know this is a lengthy query--thanks for the help, Barb

Barb
can't help with the airline, sorry. I'm taking it that you have been to Singapore as this would have been an obvious stop. Hk is great! You could just about do justice to the place in 3 days. Stick to Hong Kong island and Kowloon and leave trips to the New Territories for your next visit! Its easy to get around HK- don't bother with taxis- use the MTR, its so convenient. Do a search on this forum on HK and have a good idea of what you want to do when you get there(you may even decide you would like to do a day trip further afield! ) I would suggest that you do the 3 days before visiting your son as it can be exhausting and you can have "chill out" time with your son!

Yes, stay with Singapore Airlines. I have flown with many airlines, Cathay Pacific and Singapore are the only 2 I'd love to fly with.
If you have been to Singapore, I would not suggest a trip to Hong Kong. Sure Hong Kong is somehow different from Singapore and more exciting. But it is just another modern city. But there are other places that more different. Why not try those? I am sure Singapore flies to Bali. I also flew with it to Maldivies. It was a lot of fun.
Enjoy your miles.

Just returned from 25 day trip to Southeast Asia. KL was our hub. Malaysia Airlines has fantastic "Access Asai" pass available. I would suggest Borneo. We went to Sabah in Borneo. It was the favorite part of our trip. I would go if you like rainforests and wildlife (only other place to see wild orangutangs (SP?) other than Sumatra). It was amazing.
